Gumberg Library at Duquesne University

Gumberg Library at Duquesne University Gumberg Library supports academic excellence and exemplary research at Duquesne University. Gumberg (Class of 1950) and his wife, Marcia M. Gumberg.

The Duquesne University library system began in 1878, when what was then known as the "Pittsburgh Catholic College of the Holy Ghost" was founded. The collection moved along with the university to the Bluff, and was for a long time housed in the Old Main administration building. In 1939, an anonymous contribution permitted work to begin on a new library building, in order to house the university's

growing collection: that structure was given to the School of Law upon the completion of the current library. The Gumburg Library building was originally constructed as a printing plant, and saw use as a garage before it was redesigned for its new purpose and opened for service as the Duquesne University Library in 1978. On 3 February 1995, it was rededicated as the "Gumberg Library at Duquesne University," a tribute to the financial support of alumnus Stanley R. We welcome comments on our official page. Please keep in mind, however, that the University reserves the right to remove any content that is offensive, abusive, discriminatory or inappropriate.

This Memorial Day weekend, we pause to honor and remember those who have served 🇺🇸,

As we reflect, we’re sharing a look back at Duquesne history through photographs from the Gumberg Library Archives—featuring the Students Army Training Corps (1918) and Duquesne University ROTC (1956 Yearbook), reminders of the many members of our Duquesne community who answered the call to serve.

🚧 Construction Begins on Gumberg Library’s 5th Floor 🚧

Beginning May 11 through early August, the 5th floor of Gumberg Library will be closed for renovations as we work to enhance your library experience.

The project will bring expanded study areas, 96 additional student seats, new furniture, more natural light, and a new single-user restroom. Additional upgrades include improvements to lighting, HVAC, flooring, security cameras, and overall building infrastructure.

During construction, visitors may experience temporary noise and brief access changes in some areas of the library, including short-term entrance and restroom access adjustments.

Thank you for your patience as we create a brighter, more modern, and welcoming space for our campus community. 💙
