What makes our program different...

Carnegie Mellon Drama PreCollege is a six week intensive program for high school rising juniors and seniors to study in a conservatory environment. Unlike many other summer drama programs, we do not work toward a final performance, but instead focus on audition techniques and materials to help prepare serious drama students for college auditions. At the end of the program all students will do a final audition or interview with their instructors and receive written evaluations providing feedback to help guide them through the college audition process. More than half of our summer faculty are regular CMU drama faculty and staff both in Performance and Design/Production. The rest of the instructors are industry professionals and drama faculty from other area schools such as University of Pittsburgh and Point Park, most of whom have been with our PreCollege program for many years. In addition to our core curriculum we offer many additional learning opportunities including elective courses, day and evening workshops, Q&A sessions with visiting artists and information sessions about our wide array of undergraduate areas of theater study. With the exception of Opening Weekend and Family Weekend, we do not schedule drama activities on the weekends, encouraging our students to take time to study, rehearse, rest and explore the lovely city of Pittsburgh.
