Management science – the academic alternative to the case study method – has its roots in analytical decision making in complex, dynamic business environments. Its prevalence and popularity has had sweeping effects – today, nearly all leading B-schools include some form of the Carnegie Mellon management science model in their curriculum. ollaboration is at the heart of our academic philosophy. As a decidedly small school housed within a decidedly small research university, we are a conservatory of innovation. The linkages across campus are numerous and an inherent part of our culture. Partnerships that would be considered unconventional at other schools are what we do best. Tepper students partner with students, professors and researchers in other schools and centers, such as engineering, robotics, biotechnology and life sciences, product design and computer science. Areas of specialization for which recruiters and researchers recognize the Tepper School include: Finance, Financial Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Operations Management, Consulting & Strategy, Computational Marketing and Technology. As one of the most technologically elite universities in the world, the dedication to cutting edge learning and application underlies everything that we do – with an approach to business management that allows our students to make a significant impact in business and in society.

Congratulations to Nigerian poet and University of Cincinnati PhD candidate Hussain Ahmed, winner of the inaugural Tayur Poetry Prize from Carnegie Mellon University Press for his collection Sing, Sky. The new prize was established through a generous gift from Sridhar Tayur, Ford Distinguished Research Chair and University Professor of Operations Management at the Tepper School, to recognize outstanding collections by emerging poets.

Ahmed’s work explores the intersections of music, migration, history, and identity, including what he describes as the first Yoruba abecedarian poem. His collection will be published by CMU Press in Spring 2027.

We’re proud to see Professor Tayur’s support helping create new opportunities for emerging voices in poetry and the arts. Read the full story: https://cmu.is/4fMswCI

"I didn't see the MBA as something I was owed... I saw it as something entrusted to me."

Teyonna Jarman, MBA '26, delivered these words as the keynote student speaker at the Tepper School's 2026 Welcome Weekend, an event designed to show admitted masters students what life at the Tepper School truly looks like.

Her speech was so powerful, it was too good not to share.
