We have experienced a very busy fall in the IKC, with many of our members participating in the annual Johnson Cup tournament and rank exam in Columbus, Ohio, and the rank exam in Chicago, Illinois. All did well, particularly in our rank examinations, with newer members testing for the first time, and our more experienced kenshi advancing in rank. Congratulations to all our members.

Last weekend several members of the IKC attended a seminar in Detroit led by Nishimura Hidehisa, legendary three time All Japan kendo champion. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, and learned a great deal from Nishimura-sensei, who is not only a great kendo teacher and practitioner, but also a very nice man.

Scenes from our class last night. We have such an excellent mix of older and younger kenshi, advanced, beginners, etc. And everyone gave it their all in what was a spirited practice.

Members of the Indianapolis Kendo Club attended the annual MWKF summer camp at St. Louis University last weekend. This is an intense and rewarding two and a half day kendo experience, taught by Saito-sensei (8th dan), Yamanaka-sensei (8th dan), and Suzuki-sensei (7th dan), and attended by over one hundred kenshi from around the region. We worked extensively on kata, various kihon and waza, and enjoyed excellent social time with each other and new friends we met. Best of all, IKC member Ian Crotty passed ikkyu and Christina Yu passed shodan during Sunday's grading examinations. Way to go, Ian and Christina!
