Freemason Presidents: How the Lodge Shaped American Leadership

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026, the influence of Freemasonry on the nation’s history is worth remembering. Some of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence, led the Continental Army, and drafted the Constitution were Masons. The fraternity’s values of brotherhood, equality, and truth shaped not only their conduct in the lodge, but their vision for a new nation.

To honor this anniversary, we’re shining a light on 5 Influential U.S. Presidents who were also Masons...

The Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Virginia celebrates an extraordinary day of unity and Light at the One Day Festival of Degrees, held on August 29th in Waynesboro, Virginia. Warmest congratulations are extended to all the newly exalted Companions.

The day was elevated by the presence of the Grand High Priest, several Past Grand High Priests, many Grand Line Officers, and numerous Companions from across the Commonwealth.

Heartfelt appreciation is extended to all the Companions who labored in the ritual. Your skill, preparation, and devotion ensured that each degree was delivered with excellence, reverence, and meaning.

From the opening moments of the day to the final handshake of congratulations, the Festival reflected the very best of our fraternity — unity, mentorship, and the shared pursuit of Light.

In each of the first three degrees of Freemasonry, the candidate expresses a desire for light. But once he has been raised, we tend to leave him to his own devices. Those true seekers will find the Royal Arch degrees to be the best “first step” on the path to more light in Masonry. The six Royal Arch degrees are intimately related to the first three
degrees in Masonry. They detail the story of the completion, dedication, destruction, and rebuilding of King Solomon's Temple including the recovery of the lost secrets...

"Be On The Alert, Stand Firm In The Faith, Act Like Men, Be Strong." - 1 Corinthians 16:13

This Scripture reminds us to be vigilant and watch out for spiritual dangers, tests, or bad influences. We must also guard our minds against bad habits, deceitful teachings, and temptations and think like a watchman who looks out for danger before it arrives.

To "stand firm in the faith" is to hold your ground. To not let fear, pressure, or worldly trends push you away from your trust in God. Continue in those virtuous and moral paths in life as we strive for righteousness.

Acting like a man Biblically is a broad topic that covers a range of subjects. In one place it means trusting God when no one believes you for 100 years as you complete a task others laugh about. In another place it means being betrayed by your blood brothers and not seeking vengeance years later when they apply to you for aid but instead treating them with mercy and grace. In yet another place it means facing a giant with a rock and a sling and yet trusting God that you will have the victory. Acting like a man means being courageous and not cheating or being a bully just because you can. It means working hard and understanding that God is in control even when you are not.

Finally, being strong is akin to being a man. The two walk hand in hand towards that eternal rest we are promised. Strength is measured in the ability to both endure and yield. It is also, at differing times, both war and peace within the same man. Strength is required to move and to be still, to lead and to follow. Remember the warrior in the garden and the pen that was mightier than the sword. Strength is measured by the quality of your victory and not by the quantity.

Mark Well!

What a wonderful evening in Capitular District 21!

We were honored to join the Grand High Priest during his final official visits across all districts this past weekend. The energy was incredible, the fellowship was heartwarming, and the Grand High Priest’s program was excellent — a truly memorable night with Companions from across the District.

A massive thank you to Cradock Chapter No. 72 and Mount Horeb No. 11 for their outstanding hospitality. Your warmth and preparation made the event exceptional.

Grateful appreciation to all who prepared the meal, to our ladies, to the Grand Chapter officers, and to every Companion who took time to spend a wonderful evening with us. Your dedication continues to strengthen our Capitular work throughout the Commonwealth.
