As we celebrate Labor Day and West Indian Carnival Day, we celebrate the vibrant culture, heritage, traditions, and families of the Caribbean community while also recognizing the generations of Black men and women whose labor, sacrifice, organization, and determination helped build stronger communities and create opportunities for those who followed.
From A. Philip Randolph and the Pullman Porters to Black workers today, Black labor is Black history. Their legacy reminds us of what can be accomplished when people organize, stand together, and work toward a common purpose.
That spirit of unity, perseverance, and collective action is especially meaningful to the Saint Augustine’s University family today. As SAU continues through its Chapter 11 restructuring and reorganization, the work of preserving our University and helping to build a sustainable future continues.
Today, we celebrate our culture, our history, our labor, our families—and the work still ahead.
Happy Labor Day & West Indian Carnival Day!
💙🤍 Falcons Forever!
