Paula and Michael McNulty were high school sweethearts. They experienced many deployments from Korea to Afghanistan and Iraq in the 18 years of military services.

Sadly, Mike was killed on June 17, 2005 in a raid on a house in Iraq. “We always hoped for our children to go on to college or whatever career path they chose,” explained Paula. We wanted our children to grow and to become the person they wanted to be. To make their mark on our world and be the best person they can.”

When Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation learned of Michael’s passing, the non-profit jumped into action. “I learned of the foundation when co-founder David Kim called my house on day. He explained who he was, about the foundation, then asked if they could help the children.”

The vision of Fallen Patriots is to extend peace of mind to Gold Star families in all 50 states, in all branches of the military.

"We really feel like we have a duty as a nation and as individuals to support those who have given everything to our country and to our freedom. We cant stand the thought of people who have given so much having children who are at a disadvantage. We try to do everything we can to support them and to ensure that they have every opportunity. Children of Fallen Patriots' mission is perfectly suited to the goals we are hoping to achieve." -Ben Carter

United States Air Force Senior Airman Donald Ray died in April 1998 while on active duty. His daughter Isabella was just two years old at the time. “If anything, I have this warm fondness for him. I don’t think people ever truly leave you, so I like to think wherever I go he’s with me always,” Isabella shared.

Isabella says her father’s sacrifice was to keep Americans safe. “I know he passed on defending the ideals the United States stands for,” she explained. “I think my Dad would be most proud of me for believing in myself, knowing who I am and not letting life’s obstacles drag me away from what I want to do with myself.”

Isabella was inspired to choose studying history after a visit to the British Museum when she was eleven years old. “I knew I had to work to preserve the cultures of those who have long since passed,” she explained. “The worlds of Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and their neighbors continue to teach me about humanity and I want my career to repay these revolutionaries for their wisdom.” #ThrowbackThursday

Citi's #eforEducation campaign is lighting up Times Square this week!

Katie O'Hare is the daughter of U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Raymond O’Hare. He died in July 2000 when a T-38A Talon training jet crashed while in Test Pilot School. His family says he was selfless, loving, and always laughing.

Katie remembers the morning he left for work the day he died. “My sister and I were in my parent’s bed with my mom while he was getting ready to leave,” she explained. “We kept giving him hugs and kisses, telling him how much we loved him. This may seem sad, but to me I got to say goodbye.”

Her advice to other military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty is to 'do well in school and go after something you’re passionate about.' With the help of Fallen Patriots, Katie graduated in May 2018 from College of Charleston. She's now living in #NewYorkCity and has a job in marketing.

Thank you Citi -- together we are #EnablingProgress for Gold Star Scholars and fulfilling our vision to extend peace of mind to Gold Star families in all 50 states, in all branches of the military!
