I can't wait to see you all back on campus. For me waiting can be so hard, but I know that waiting, anticipating, looking forward to exciting new things is a spiritual discipline. Waiting feels quiet and it invites us to rest, to prepare, to get excited about what is to come. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the last week before you return there is a beautiful spectacle in the night sky - the Perseid Meteor Shower. Spending some time watching the night sky is a wonderful way to remind yourself that good things come with a little bit of waiting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What a wonderful Wednesday! Even though digital/phone cameras are pretty advanced these days, I still find it magical to use film sometimes. There's something special about taking a photo with very little idea how it'll turn out. I recently got a roll of film taken this fall developed, and here is an amazing shot of my friend doing a handstand at Seawall Beach, over in Phippsburg, Maine. I think her reflection in the wet sand is so beautiful. If you could stare into your own reflection, what would you say to yourself? -Katie C⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It's Mindful Monday once again! As the fall semester at Colby comes to a close, I often find myself wishing the hard work of wrapping up could be over already. When I feel stuck in longing for a moment in time that isn't now, this poem by Mary Oliver comes to my rescue. These eight lines peer into a future that is calm and bright. Yet just before I can eagerly imagine how much happier I'd be in Oliver's "sky-house," she writes that powerful final sentence: "Every day has something in it whose name is Forever." Today has something in it whose name is Forever. I challenge you to find that something. -Katie C⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hello all! Katie here. Today is mindful Monday, and I've chosen to share a passage from Thich Nhat Hanh's book, "Peace is Every Step." Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist who has published over 100 books and aims to make Buddhist insights and mindfulness accessible to people from all walks of life.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This passage is incredibly meaningful to me -- so much so, that when I ventured out on the Pacific Crest Trail back in 2015 and it came time to get a trail name, I called myself Dandelion. Even though happiness, or "my smile," is never permanent, those feelings always exist within me. To me, it is deeply comforting to believe that all emotions -- the good and the bad -- are both transient and resilient. When I see a dandelion in the grass, the sight evokes the joy that exists in the world and in myself. It is an honor to share the name of this precious, yellow flower. -Katie C⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Time for Wednesday wonder! A change in perspective can sometimes help us see beauty in mundane, everyday things. Tree-climbing is great and all, but my favorite way to appreciate a place is to lie belly-down in the grass and imagine how a mouse would see it. How do you like to appreciate wonder in your life? -Katie C⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy Mindful Monday! Today, I want to feature the wisdom of Emily Dickinson, a poet who has deeply impacted my spiritual outlook. In her lifetime, Dickinson studied Christian scripture throughout her youth and during her year at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. Her writing pushes the bounds of the Christian traditions she was educated in and challenges the religious norms of her time. Dickinson inspires me in her willingness to question what everyone around her accepted. What is something you're questioning today? -Katie C⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
