Registration open for Sacramento biotech summit at Aggie Square
The City of Sacramento is joining regional partners to present the inaugural CAPBIO Summit on Sept. 16 at Aggie Square.
The one-day event will bring together biotech and life sciences employers, researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, educators and workforce organizations to discuss industry growth and career development in the Sacramento region.
Sessions will cover moving research from discovery to market, helping startup companies grow, preparing workers for biotech careers and creating an environment where companies can establish and expand their operations. The event also will feature startup presentations, a vendor showcase and a networking reception.
“Sacramento’s future is built on the industries we choose to invest in today,” City Manager Maraskeshia Smith said. “Biotech and life sciences represent exactly the kind of high-quality job growth our region needs, and CAPBIO reflects what’s possible when the public and private sectors move in the same direction. We’re proud to stand behind an effort that puts Sacramento’s workforce and innovation economy on the map.”
Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra will be among the speakers, along with representatives from UC Davis, Biocom, the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), the Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA) and several biotechnology companies.
The summit builds on the work of the Capital Region Biotech Talent Partnership, an employer-led initiative that connects biotech companies with education, workforce and economic development organizations.
As part of that partnership, the City’s Economic Development Department has worked with Valley Vision and SETA to engage employers and better align workforce programs with industry needs. Participating employers help identify anticipated hiring needs, required skills and opportunities to improve education and training programs.
The broader effort is intended to prepare local workers for biotech and life sciences careers while helping employers find the skilled workers they need to grow in the region.
The summit will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Aggie Square, 4480 Second Ave.
