Today's Featured Core: Immune Modeling, Analysis and Diagnostics
Also known as: IMADSR

The IMADSR offers comprehensive immune monitoring services for clinical and translational studies. IMADSR services support research efforts to characterize the immune system in disease settings, including autoimmunity and cancer.

Their experts perform advanced bioinformatics, high-parameter flow cytometry, microbiome sequencing, scRNA-seq analysis and spatial sequencing. They also offer consultation on:

Experimental design and sample collection
Innovative approaches to evaluate immune responses in clinical studies
Optimal project-specific immunologic assessment

Features of their clinical lab include:

Automated assays to improve reproducibility
Cryostorage systems for biobanking specimens
Fully equipped tissue culture room with laminar hoods, tissue culture incubators, two Eppendorf centrifuges, microscope and water bath
High-parameter, fully automated flow cytometer
Infrastructure for sample collection, processing and storage with dedicated -20°C and -80°C freezers and liquid nitrogen storage
Patient specimen processing and storage with electronic sample management and tracking systems

NIH Update: Letters of Support

The School of Medicine Office of Research Grants Facilitation Unit keeps School of Medicine researchers updated on important NIH developments, including changes to any requirements to award programs and application requirements.

Please be advised that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced that Letters of Support (LOS) will be replaced by Letters of Collaboration, with implementation expected with the next form update (FORM J). This change is designed to reduce administrative burden and streamline application requirements.

Key highlights:
• 100-word limit per letter
• Letters should document a specific collaboration or resource commitment
• No general endorsements of the application
• Generally no letters from senior/key personnel or other significant contributors

New UC Davis center seeks better brain tumor treatments for people and pets

The new UC Davis Translational Brain Tumor Center brings together the expertise of researchers at the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine and UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center to improve cancer care in people and pets.

The center is led by specialists in veterinary neuro-oncology, radiation oncology, human neuro-oncology and therapeutic development. The team is developing a framework in which insights can move among laboratory research, veterinary clinical trials and human medicine. The center also supports advanced imaging, molecular research, biobanking, multidisciplinary clinical care and education in comparative neuro-oncology.
