❤️🎓💛 It’s our last day of sharing favorite Flagler memories so we’d figure we’d share our own! “Move-in Days are by far my favorite memories. The excitement, everyone coming together to start something new, the gross heat, all of it combined is a magical way to begin a new school year. I always love the energy!!” Tara Stevenson, Dean of Student Engagement & Career Development. @ Flagler College
❤️🎓💛 Today we hear from Katie Carlos on her favorite Flagler memories with her major! “While I have tons of amazing memories from my time here, I would love to share a few.
First, would be becoming an ambassador. I loved giving tours to families and sharing my home with future saints. It was always an amazing feeling seeing some of them around campus the following year and having them recognize you!
Next, would be the official addition of my major, Secondary Mathematics Education. The major was added the beginning of my sophomore year and would allow me to easily achieve my dream of teaching high school math. I am one out of two that will be awarded this major for the very first time! Being one a only a few math education majors I have gotten to have opportunities with my professors that not many have. My very favorite was handing out pies around campus on Pi Day 2017 with Dr. Grant!
Lastly, I was the first person to awarded the Honors Day award in Secondary Mathematics Education last year. I was completely honored to be recognized by both the education and mathematics professors.
Attached is a picture of Dr. Sebastian, Dr. Grant, and myself at the honors day ceremony.”

❤️🎓💛 It’s another Monday and we’re bringing you another week of favorite Flagler memories. Here’s Celia Grassi: “My favorite Flagler memory was being inducted into Alpha Chi, the national college honor society, by my professor and mentor Joe Vlah. I was not only inducted but also became the Vice President. This is my favorite memory as it showed that all my hard work and dedication wasn’t unnoticed by Flagler. I felt appreciated and commended by the school. It was a great night that I got to share with other top students as well as some of my favorite professors.”
❤️🎓💛 We’re finishing you this week with favorite Flagler memories from Kait Barnette: “I cannot choose 1 single memory that I love because there are too many, but for certain my biggest blessing from my 4 years at Flagler has been finding a roommate I have stayed with the entire time and building relationships that will last way after college.” @ Flagler College
❤️🎓💛 Today we bring you favorite Flagler memories from Julia Manze: “It’s hard to choose one, but the wave and rave my sophomore was so unexpectedly fun. It was the first time Flagler put on the wave and rave and they had the giant slide filled with soap and bubbles on the west lawn and everyone was running around falling and slipping and just having a great time! There was a great turn out too! I have also loved every Admitted Student Day I have either attended or worked. It’s so fun to see all of the incoming students have their first day on campus as a class to celebrate together because I remembered that feeling so well! It was so fun to work the event the past 4 years as well working with a group of people I loved and making the event run as smoothly as possible.” @ Flagler College
❤️🎓💛 It’s another day and we’re bringing you more Flagler memories. Today, Caroline Davis tells us all about her study abroad trip: “My favorite Flagler Memory is the Study Abroad I took to Berlin in the summer 2019. It was my first experience outside of the country and it was led by Dr. Balaschak. I never thought I would be able to do this, but Bright Futures had just changed their rules of funding, so I jumped at the chance to go! I learned so much through this experience. We visited many historic landmarks, such as Charlottenburg Palace, the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall. These grand landmarks were all important to understanding the history of the country and how it led to their involvement in World War II. However, the main lesson of the class was about the Bauhaus, a German modernist art school and community that occurred between the two world wars. So, we took a side trip to Dessau one day to tour the Bauhaus campus, where we saw how the schools' designs were implemented into the structure of the building. Overall, it was one of the best experiences of my college career, and I would do anything to go back and experience it again!”
❤️🎓💛 Here’s Ethan Mcalpin sharing a favorite Flagler favorite memory. Ethan spent a lot of his time perfecting his media production skills as a videographer with the Men’s Basketball Team!
❤️🎓💛 It’s another week and we’re bringing you more Flagler memories! Today we hear from Karina Quinones: “I would say my favorite Flagler memory would have to be helping out every August with Orientation Week! I love being able to help the new students be comfortable in their new environment and help them in any way I can! Being able to see people fall in love with their college and the city like I did is so humbling!”
❤️🎓💛 Jessie Bowers shares what it was like becoming a History major as a favorite memory: “Of course, Flagler has brought me some of my best friends and now family that I cannot wait to take with me as the next phase of life happens. However, I will forever be grateful for Flagler giving me the opportunity to turn a passion into a career. Upon coming to Flagler as I freshman I was young and wild with no clear direction. I knew I wanted to be involved in change and helping others but I didn't know what or how to get there. After leaving my freshman year, not doing so hot GPA wise, I thought I would switch to business so I could just get a degree, move back to GA, try and not be too miserable and figure it out from there. I became really depressed and discouraged as I had lost my passion for my future. That was until taking a GEN ED history class with Dr. Butler. He pulled me to the side, asked what my major was, and said that I would get bored and needed to look into history. A month later I switched my major (although I didn't tell my parents for almost a year) and have regained a passion for something I didn't know was possible. Dr. Butler pushed me to become a stronger student and person with lots of tough love. But, as much as I hate to admit it, without it, I wouldn't be half of the person I am today. I am forever grateful that Flagler has brought me tons of amazing memories and people. However, I am most grateful for how Flagler has prepared me for the future and constantly pushed me to be the best version of my self. #thanksflagler” 📸: @flaglercollege
❤️🎓💛 Today we bring you some favorite memories from Rachel Ihasz: My favorite memories from “All Shook Up”, “The Old Man and The Old Moon” and my directing show. Some of the projects I've been involved with alongside many of my Flagler friends are the best times of my Flagler legacy. Rachel also helped plan Founder’s Day from this past fall! @rachelhopeihasz @ Flagler College
❤️🎓💛 Today we’re sharing memories from Teddy Leo: “We used to run the Nick Cannon on Campus Insta; That time we ran into Tony the Tiger”. Thank you for sharing, @teodoro_a_leo @ Flagler College
❤️🎓💛 In a time when we couldn’t celebrate Commencement in a way we hoped, we’re going to look back at some favorite Flagler memories as our Graduates begin their next adventures. Today we’re sharing Emily Stacey’s favorite memories which include: “Starting my internship with the St. Augustine Beach Police; Meeting my best friend and boyfriend freshman year in our learning community;
Touring the FL State Prison;
Getting to be on the Student Judiciary Council; Starting a new club and holding many successful workshops with pie a professor two years in a row; and Getting to sit in the Sheriff’s helicopter freshman year. Thank you for sharing, Emily! @ Flagler College
