The environment affects so many areas of policy, including agriculture, food supply, corporate regulations, disaster relief and response, health, housing, energy, the economy, and infrastructure. While the newest IPCC report confirmed many of our fears about the impending disasters if climate change goes unaddressed, it is important to remember how policy can be welded to enact widespread action for the benefit of the environment and the people. If you're looking for an example, you can call the Minnesota EPA to report the risk the Line 3 Pipeline poses to an endangered kind of mussel in Minnesota.

Heating from humans has caused irreparable damage to the Earth that may get worse in coming decades.

As New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, resigns after being called out for inappropriate behavior, specifically sexual harassment directed at his female coworkers and employees, it is important to remember that it IS possible to find quality public servants who are considerate of everyone they serve, including those they work with. Our elected representatives also represent our values and it's important that we are paying attention to their misconduct and continued patterns of abuse of power.

The Public Health Group for Candidate Katie focused this semester on bills having to do with mental health services, lead paint and lead paint poisoning, and shelters for victims of domestic violence. They made fact sheets about each subtopic and corresponding piece of legislation, as well as email scripts for people to use to contact their state legislators about said bills. Students in Dr. Lesinski's Candidate Katie class this semester have been focusing on the issue of inaccessible and inadequate housing with Homes for All Minnesota Coalition. There are several bills that students focused on in the current Minnesota state legislative session. We will be posting some of the content they created!
