Bethel University volleyball seeks to mark the student-athletes who have been entrusted to us with Gratefulness (Colossians 2:7-8), Selflessness (I Peter 4:10), Toughness (Hebrews 12:11) and Devotion (Romans 12:9). We are a part of the highly competitive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and have appeared in the MIAC Playoffs seven times since 2001. We have been selected to the NCAA Tournament four times since 1999. We pursue excellence relentlessly on the court and in our relationships.

Liz (Glesne) Huber is one of the most decorated players to have worn a Bethel volleyball uniform. A three-time All-MIAC selection, the 2007 MIAC Player of the Year, an All-Region, and All-American selection by the AVCA; she is also the school record holder in kills/set. Her heavy hand and big wind-up led to a total just shy of 2,000 kills in her career. "Liz's eyes would light up anytime competition was involved," says Coach Hunt. "When we would see that big swing coming, we almost expected a kill every time. She took advantage of the great ball-handlers and setters on her teams, and had a really dynamic career as a hitter, and relished the responsibility of being a point-scorer."
.
Macie Gavic, Class of 2021, has made her mark for the Royals, earning a starting role as a freshman, and has increased her kills/set for the Royals in each of her seasons. She finished the 2019 season in the top-20 in MIAC play in kills, kills/set, total attacks, and hitting percentage, along with being 21st in points/set. "Macie has that big swing and heavy hand that remind me so much of Liz," says Coach Hunt. "She has also added a finesse game and a commitment to blocking that have made her so versatile. She's an important part of our bright future!"

🚨Future Royal Alert!🚨

Coach Hunt announces today that Raisa Jensen from Grantsburg, Wisconsin and Grantsburg High School has committed to play volleyball for the Royals! Raisa is the daughter of Bryce and Heather Jensen. She helped lead the tradition-rich Pirates to a 31-6 record her junior season, and a 30-6 record her senior season, while making an appearance in the Section final both years. In 2019, she was named to the All-Conference Team (Lakeland) after tallying nearly 400 digs over the season. In the off-season, she has been involved with the Crex Meadows Volleyball Club. Off-the-court she is a member of National Honor Society, volunteers in the church nursery, and is a lifeguard at the community pool. Raisa says, "I chose Bethel because I'm able to grow in my faith and get a good education. Bethel has such a welcoming atmosphere and I knew I had to go here the second I toured the campus.” Welcome Raisa! 👑🏐

Katie Lubben cemented her name in the history books with one of the most dominant individual seasons at her position, and as a part of the most successful Royals team in history. In 2014, Katie averaged 10.93 assists/set, which ranked 10th in the nation, earning a MIAC All-Conference selection. In 2015 and 2016, she transitioned into a role in a 6-2 offense, splitting setter duties, and helped lead the Royals to back-to-back MIAC Championship game appearances and a run to the Elite 8. “A technician at the setter position, combined with a relentless competitor and a feisty floor leader is the best way to describe Katie!” says Coach Hunt. “Her willingness to do whatever the team needed to generate our highest point-scoring offense was critical to those successful seasons.”
.
Ellie Hoyt, Class of 2021, transfer from Division II MSU-Moorhead in the Northern Sun Athletic Conference, has made her mark for the Royals. A dangerous threat from the service line, she has led the Royals in aces for the last two seasons. With the ability to be an elite defender, and run the offense from the setter position, she is one of the most versatile players in the gym. “Ellie gives us so many options and provides important vocal leadership,” says Coach Hunt. “Her grittiness and willingness to do whatever we need reminds me of Katie Lubben, and she’s such an important part of our bright future!”

Katie (Snyder) Bjorklund led the Royals of Bethel
College from the setter position from 2002-2005. Playing in 126 matches and tallying 5,159 assists in four seasons, she earned a MIAC All-Conference selection and AVCA All-Region selection in 2005. “The motor that made our team run, Katie had a relentless drive and a joy that was contagious across the gym,” says Coach Hunt.
.
Hannah Wilhite, Class of 2022, has already written her name in the chronicles of Bethel Royals Volleyball history at the setter position. A two-time All-MIAC selection, the 2018 MIAC Rookie of the Year, and a 2019 AVCA All-Region selection, she has led the Royals to back-to-back MIAC Playoffs. “Hannah is a dedicated student of the game and a dangerous offensive threat. She raises the level of play in our practices every day,” says Coach Hunt.
.
P.S. as the pic illustrates, both players can demonstrate the importance of eye transfer to your quick attacker when trying to make a consistent connection (that part was for all you volleyball geeks 🤓😁😂)

Still, what I want in my life
is to be willing
to be dazzled
to cast aside the weight of facts

and maybe even
to float a little
above this difficult world.
I want to believe I am looking

into the white fire of a great mystery.
I want to believe that the imperfections are nothing -
that the light is everything - that it is more than the sum
of each flawed blossom rising. And I do.
