A member of our Latino Community who needs a voice: ST PAUL CALL TO ACTION - Shared from the victim’s co-worker’s page:
You folks remember my coworker who was hit and killed as he was biking home from work? Well now the guy who did it feels bad. He panicked. There was road rage involved. And he's hoping to get as light a sentence as possible for speeding through a red light, hitting a human being on a bicycle, leaving him lying in the road with a severed spine, disposing of the car, and then lying about the whole thing for months. The car is still missing, but he feels real bad. And he's been packing the courtroom with friends and family to show what a swell guy he is. I mean, he's a father for chrissakes. So here's what we gotta do. We have to pack the courtroom with people who don't want this monster to get away with this. Jose's family is in Mexico. All he has here are his coworkers to stand up for him. He was also a father, by the way. The sentencing hearing is on August 15th at Ramsey County Courthouse at 1:30 pm. Do you ride a bicycle and want to be able to do so without being murdered? Did you work with Jose? Do you just think vehicular homicide and fleeing the scene of a crime and disposing of evidence and lying to the police is a very bad thing to do? Join us to support Jose, so he has just as many sympathizers in that courtroom.

A lot of heavy emotions are happening in our community - We want to acknowledge the unjust happenings regarding Philando Castile. He should still be here today.

Yanez, the officer who killed Philando, is a Latino man. We must take a close look at how our latinx community perpetuates antiblackness. We must be able to start pointing it out in ourselves and our family members, friends, etc.

As a latinx organization, we will strive to be aware of the antiblackness that goes on within our own communities and acknowledge that there are afro-latinx among our communities as well, as they often go ignored.
Although it is difficult, lets talk about how we perpetuate antiblackness, lets talk about how we can dismantle this system that is putting so many down.

Hello fellow Latinx students and allies,
We are deeply saddened by last night's election results. We realize that many of you may feel fear, sadness, and anger. Though these results may present a challenge to us and our families, we want to remind you still have the power to make a powerful impact in your community. You can attend gatherings, organize in your community, reach out to those affected, and share your stories.

Please join us in GLC 105W tomorrow from 11:30am -12:30pm for our bi-weekly meeting. We will be discussing the election results and coming up with ideas on how to keep our communities safe and moving forward. We welcome anyone who needs support, including any students outside of the latino identity. Please feel free to reach out to any HALO executive board member for support.

We hope to see you tomorrow.

Why We Say Latinx: Trans & Gender Non-Conforming People Explain

LatinX is more than just making it easier to avoid having to say both LatinAs/Os when addressing people, it speaks to and respects a persons identity. It means breaking the gender binary in a binary obsessed world, we should not force anyone to fit into a category.

Has the word "Latinx" ever come across your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram? The letter "x," instead of say an "o" or an "a," is not a typo. In fact, that final letter is very intentional.  The "x" makes Latino, a masculine identifier, gender-neutral. It also moves beyond [email protected] – which has been used...
