Social Agency Lab People form the city forms the people. Design should reflect diverse peoples and support richer, more unique urban spaces.

Social Agency Lab is a collaborative of urban planners, designers, artists and anthropologists who believe that social relationships should be the basis for a generative design process of better urban places. Founded in 2011 in Austin, TX, we aim to set forth a design process that is inclusive and empowering to all intended and unintended users of the space in order to meet the needs of all potential end users. We believe that urban design is a social process with a spatial outcome, while its implementation is a spatial process with a social outcome. We design for a multiplicity of identities, histories, and experiences. Through our practice and research, we seek to explore, expand and communicate our brand of theoretical, experimental and applied urbanism in four project areas: projects, products, pedagogy and publications.
