The Seattle (WA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. expresses its disappointment with the City of Seattle’s handling of the dismissal of Police Chief Shon Barnes.
According to the Seattle Police Department’s 2025 Year in Review, under Chief Barnes’ leadership, Seattle saw:
• ⬇️ 18% decrease in overall crime
• ⬇️ 36% decrease in homicides
• ⬇️ 36% fewer people struck by gunfire
• ✅ 86% homicide clearance rate
These outcomes reflect meaningful progress in public safety. While we recognize that public safety is a shared responsibility involving law enforcement, community members, elected officials, and partner organizations, measurable results deserve acknowledgment.
The Seattle Nupes thank Chief Barnes for his dedicated service and steadfast leadership. His commitment to the safety and well-being of our community has made a lasting impact, and we are grateful for his service to the City of Seattle. We wish Chief Barnes continued success, fulfillment, and many achievements in all of his future endeavors.
