Sherwood didn’t become the community we love by accident. Decades ago, city leaders made deliberate choices about planning, development, and land use that helped create the sense of place we value today. Those decisions set a strong foundation and gave Sherwood its distinct character.
As a city councilor, I see our role as carrying that responsibility forward. The choices we make now will shape what Sherwood looks like for future generations. At a time when state actions increasingly limit local authority over development standards, housing decisions, and neighborhood design, we believed it was important to take steps to better safeguard local input. Measures 34-347 and 34-348 don’t address every challenge we face, but they do strengthen our ability to stand up for community-driven planning and ensure Sherwood continues to reflect the values of the people who live here.
Mayor Tim Rosener has written another great article providing more information and the importance of voting yes on these ballot measures:
Protect your right to shape Sherwood’s growth. Vote on January 13 to keep planning decisions in local hands, not Salem’s.
