🎷 What an incredible two weeks!

Our studio was proudly represented at the where several of our students spent two weeks immersed in performances, masterclasses, private lessons, chamber music, and collaborations with talented saxophonists from across the country. The opportunity to work with so many exceptional musicians made for an unforgettable experience and an inspiring milestone in our summer!

We are also proud that Dr. John Sampen and Garrett Evans (DMA ‘25) served on the institute faculty, sharing their expertise and mentoring students throughout the program. Sam Valancy (DMA ‘27) was apart of the faculty, as a summer intern.

The institute featured an outstanding lineup of guest artists, including and . It was especially exciting to welcome New Thread Quartet, whose members include two Bowling Green State University alumni, making their visit even more meaningful for our studio, Erin Rodgers (MM ‘05) and Dr. Noa Even (DMA ‘14).

The BigSu (Dr. Garrett Evans, Jake Loitz, Sam Valancy, and Adam Hanna), Dr. Sampen and Dr. Shrude traveled to NYC to perform at the National Sawdust earlier this month!

Congratulations to all who performed in the DMA cohort and other faculty members!

Registration for the 2026 BGSU Summer Music Institute Super Sax Camp is open!

We are excited to welcome back Dr. Bobbi Thompson as guest instructor, with faculty instructors, and two camp counselors!

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a quartet, duo lessons, jazz ensemble, recitals, and saxophone choir!

Bachelor of Musical Arts senior Hannah Huddle will present her capstone project this Friday!
Hannah received grants from the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music, ProMusica, and CURS to travel to the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts to research the Pauline Oliveros Papers in NYC!

An exciting weekend for chamber music at the Douglas Wayland Chamber Music Competition!

The Calm Quartet (Landon McGee, Charlie Miley, Max Miles, and Lydia Hallman) participated in the undergraduate division!

V4L1D Quartet (Mary Borus, Aidan Peper, Chandler Creedon, and Matthew Reed) and Bowling Reeds TIED for second place in the graduate division!

Great performances at the Winners Concert last night!

We are very fortunate to have welcomed Ryo Noda on Tuesday for a masterclass and lecture!

Charlie Miley performed Improvisation 1 and Conner Lynch performed Mai, both works by Mr. Noda!
