In March 2009, a group of Alpha Kappa Alpha members came together with the vision of chartering a new chapter to serve an area not currently benefiting from the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Sanctioned in November of 2011 as an official Interest Group, members began to provide education, outreach and service to the communities in and around Garner, Clayton and Smithfield, of
Johnston County, North Carolina. On Saturday, June 8, 2013, the vision of one and the efforts of many came to fruition. POSIG became the newest chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. On this day, we became Psi Sigma Omega. We pledge to continue to actively provide and participate in service programs/initiatives that will improve the socio-economic conditions; promote and support education and outreach; and strengthen the communities in and around Garner, Clayton and Smithfield, NC.
