The Psi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Dynamic group of women representing Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. providing community service to Johnston County and surrounding areas.

In March 2009, a group of Alpha Kappa Alpha members came together with the vision of chartering a new chapter to serve an area not currently benefiting from the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Sanctioned in November of 2011 as an official Interest Group, members began to provide education, outreach and service to the communities in and around Garner, Clayton and Smithfield, of Johnston County, North Carolina. On Saturday, June 8, 2013, the vision of one and the efforts of many came to fruition. POSIG became the newest chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. On this day, we became Psi Sigma Omega. We pledge to continue to actively provide and participate in service programs/initiatives that will improve the socio-economic conditions; promote and support education and outreach; and strengthen the communities in and around Garner, Clayton and Smithfield, NC.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Psi Sigma Omega Chapter, was proud to partner with the Johnston County NAACP for the Nonpartisan Candidates Forum.

The forum gave Johnston County residents an opportunity to hear directly from more than 10 candidates about the upcoming election, ask questions, and become better informed before voting.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® – Psi Sigma Omega Chapter joins communities across the nation in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and helping to end the silence surrounding domestic violence.

Domestic violence can impact individuals and families in every community. This month, we encourage each of us to learn the signs, listen without judgment, share resources, and remind survivors that they are not alone.

Together, we can use our voices to promote awareness, encourage safety, and stand in support of those whose voices deserve to be heard.

Congratulations to our Fall 2026 Alfreda Wright Murphy Scholarship recipients! 💕💚

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® – Psi Sigma Omega Chapter is proud to celebrate two outstanding scholars, Emma Williford and Jayda Clay.

🌸 Emma Williford, our Dual-Credit Scholarship Recipient, is a student at South Johnston High School and Johnston Community College and has been accepted to UNC-Chapel Hill.

🌸 Jayda Clay, our College Scholarship Recipient, is a student at Johnston Community College.

Through the Alfreda Wright Murphy Scholarship, we are honored to invest in the educational journeys of students in our community and celebrate their hard work, determination, and bright futures.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀

Together in sisterhood, let’s raise awareness and encourage one another to take charge of our breast health.

Breast cancer affects women in every community, but Black women face a disproportionate burden: the American Cancer Society reports that Black women are 38% more likely to die from breast cancer than White women, despite being slightly less likely to be diagnosed.

We also want to remember that men can develop breast cancer. It is uncommon, but the American Cancer Society estimates that about 1 in 755 men will be diagnosed during their lifetime.

Know what is normal for your body, talk with a healthcare provider about screening that’s right for you, and seek medical advice about new or unusual breast changes. Early attention and timely follow-up matter.

Let’s share information, support everyone affected, and remind our loved ones: you are worthy of care.

💕💚 Psi Sigma Omega showed up and showed out at Clayton’s first annual NAMI Walk!

We were proud to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and its work to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support people and families affected by mental health conditions.

Thank you to everyone who donated to this important cause. Our chapter exceeded its $300 fundraising goal and raised $400!

A special thank-you to our team members for showing up and showing out: Team Captain Soror Oney, Sorors Regina, Eugenia, and Maria E. It was an awesome morning of fellowship and community support!

Psi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® invites our community to help stock JCC’s Elevation Market and make sure students have access to the essentials they need to stay fed, focused, and thriving.
