✏️ 📖 Calling all creative writers! ✏️ 📖

Take your writing to the next level. Join us October 5 at 5 p.m. for the Stony Brook Southampton MFA in Creative Writing Open House.

Program Director Julie Sheehan will explain degree and portfolio requirements and walk you through the application process. Staff will describe fellowships and graduate teaching opportunities for those who wish to teach while they study.

Readings will fill part of the night. LB Thompson, a member of the MFA faculty, will read from their work, as will Stony Brook University Alumni Association alumna Caitlin Mullen, author of “Please See Us” and “Heather," giving prospective students a sense of the writing the program produces and the paths its students take after they finish.

Our literary community looks forward to meeting you. Courses are available at both our Southampton and Manhattan locations.

🌊 Surf’s Up on Shinnecock Bay! 🛶

Stony Brook students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program traded their backpacks for paddles and hit the water for a kayaking adventure on Shinnecock Bay!

Sponsored by the Stony Brook Office of Student Life, the outing gave students a chance to enjoy the beautiful waters surrounding Stony Brook Southampton, spend time with friends and make some great memories along the way.

⛵️ A day on the water with the Seawolves! 🌊

🪸 Stony Brook Southampton Office of Student Life and the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences welcomed students, faculty, and staff aboard a free boat excursion on Shinnecock Bay.

🐡 We learned about the local ecosystem, explored the bay, and got to interact with marine life brought up by the crew, including fish, crabs, and more!

🦀 Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun afternoon on the water!

🕷️ Stony Brook University researcher Andrew Handel is bringing his experience with tick-borne diseases to the Suffolk County Tick Control Advisory Committee.

The pediatric infectious disease specialist at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital was appointed following a resolution introduced by Suffolk County Legislator Ann E. Welker.

Dr. Handel also provides specialized evaluations at the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center and Clinic in Hampton Bays – the first dedicated tick clinic in the Northeast.

Climate innovation took center stage at the latest Stony Brook Southampton Dialogues.

President Andrea Goldsmith recently hosted M. Sanjayan, CEO of The New York Climate Exchange, at Chancellors Hall for a conversation about the future of climate innovation and the work underway at The Exchange.

Anchored by Stony Brook, The New York Climate Exchange is developing a 250,000-square-foot climate campus on Governors Island that will bring together scientists, entrepreneurs and policymakers to advance research, urban resilience, disaster planning and clean energy workforce development.

The conversation explored how The Exchange can help move climate research into real-world solutions and prepare the next generation of climate leaders.
