Stanford Silicon Valley - New Japan Project

Stanford Silicon Valley - New Japan Project The Stanford Silicon Valley - New Japan Project aims to create a sustained platform for interactions between Silicon Valley and Japan There has been a heightened interest in Silicon Valley as an innovation system.
(2)

The interest is not only in Silicon Valley's entrepreneurism, but how entrepreneurship fits into the broader economic structure. Over the past few years, Silicon Valley has witnessed a new wave of Japanese startups (entrepreneurs, successful startups from Japan). This trend has occurred within the context of increased importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in Japan. A key challenge is not simply to try to duplicate the ecosystem, but to figure out how large firms, fast-growing large startups, and emerging startups can “harness” the Silicon Valley ecosystem. Silicon Valley is also seeing a greater maturing of interpersonal networks of Japanese, although they are not yet at the levels of some other prominent local network groups. The need for greater university-business ties between Japanese businesses and U.S. universities is also clear.

4.29.19 Public Forum — Stanford Silicon Valley - New Japan Project

Please join us next Monday for our April public forum: "How Obayashi Collaborates in the Silicon Valley Community" featuring COO/CFO of Obayashi Silicon Valley Ventures & Laboratory, Hiroto Sato.

For most industries, there has been a significant difference in productivity before and after the implementation of IT. The construction industry, however, has been relatively slow to adopt innovative IT systems and technologies, and IT has yet to drastically alter the construction industry landscape. As new product categories such as "edtech" and "fintech" have emerged, Obayashi noticed that Silicon Valley startups seemed largely uninterested in the construction industry, and a market for "construction tech" had yet to emerge. It was this observation that led Obayashi to establish the Silicon Valley Ventures and Laboratory (SVVL) in 2017, launching its efforts to connect universities, laboratories, large IT companies and startups to create a vibrant construction tech ecosystem.

To learn more about Obayashi's story and its recent activities, RSVP here: http://www.stanford-svnj.org/42919-public-forum
