March for Science

Yesssss!👩‍🔬 👑

“I think that what I’m doing by being a woman of science and redefining what it means to be Miss America in 2020 is how I deal with those people,” Schrier said. “I’ve had people that don’t think that what I do is necessarily a talent. But you know what? Miss America is someone that needs to educate, be able to communicate with everyone, and that’s what I do as a woman of science. And we need to show that Miss America can be a scientist and that a scientist can be Miss America.”

A Mighty Girl

Happy National STEM Day!

In honor of National STEM Day, we've celebrating the five extraordinary Mighty Girls who just won all of the top prizes at the premiere science and engineering competition for middle school students! To meet these young innovators -- whose projects range from improving car safety by removing blind spots, to making bricks on Mars using native materials, to stopping the spread of invasive species -- visit our new blog post at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=27388

To introduce children and teens to more inspiring female scientists, visit our blog post, "Ignite Her Curiosity: 60 Books to Inspire Science-Loving Mighty Girls," at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=13914

Among the recommendations is the excellent illustrated biography with fascinating profiles on fifty women of science, "Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers," for ages 9 and up at https://www.amightygirl.com/women-in-science

For fun ways to encourage your children's interest in science, you can also find many girl-empowering science toys and kits in our blog post, "Top 60 Science Toys for Mighty Girls" at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=10528

Abstract: Through the lens of evolution, climate change is an agent of natural selection that forces populations to change and adapt, or face extinction. However, current assessments of the risk of biodiversity associated with climate change do not typically take into account how natural selection i...

"It’s so incredibly amazing to see girls and women start at an early age to be encouraged to do math and science and to play with data. It’s one of the things that brings tears to my eyes. I was raised in a culture where women just did certain things, and math wasn’t one of them. To see the opportunities that girls and women have now is amazing, and inspiring, and a relief. It’s about time!" -- Sarah Rice, UX Architect and Information Strategist

In 2015 Stanford University Professor Margot Gerritsen spoke at a data conference with not a single other woman on the program. She knew something had to be done to get women into the field. And so WiDS was born 🚀
