The National Academy of Inventors - Stony Brook University Chapter (NAI-SBU) celebrated the faculty, staff, and partners driving innovation across our university during its 2026 Annual Meeting and Induction Ceremony.

Held June 5, the event recognized new chapter members, honorary members, and the Young Academic Inventor Award recipients. Attendees also heard inspiring remarks from Stony Brook University president and NAI Fellow Andrea Goldsmith, who was honored as the inaugural inductee into the NAI-SBU Inventors Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to this year's inductees, award recipients, patent recipients, and researchers whose groundbreaking discoveries are making a real-world impact.

On June 5, the National Academy of Inventors - Stony Brook University Chapter and Intellectual Property Partners hosted the Young Academic Inventors (YAI) Symposium at the Charles B. Wang Center.

The event showcased innovative research from Stony Brook University faculty addressing some of today’s most pressing challenges, including emerging diseases, climate change, clean energy, wearable healthcare technologies, and AI privacy protections. The symposium also honored the 2025 and 2026 Young Academic Inventor Award recipients and celebrated the 10th anniversary of NAI-SBU.

This summer, register in college-level courses in Oceanography, Shark Biology and Conservation, and Life in Our Ocean, offered by the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University. We’re proud to share that Timothy Glotch, PhD of Stony Brook University will be featured in SUNY - The State University of New York’s “Research and Innovation” campaign running May 15–June 15 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport - JFK, and LaGuardia Airport.

Dr. Glotch was selected as one of 10 participating scientists for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Artemis IV lunar surface science team, helping shape future lunar and Mars exploration through mission planning and operations.

From drones to app design, 25 Longwood High School students explored STEM career pathways at Stony Brook University through the Women in STEM Career Awareness Program.

Across four sessions, including hands-on experiences at Stony Brook CEWIT and Institute for Advanced Computational Science, students engaged with engineering, healthcare, computing, and advanced research.

Programs like this don’t just introduce careers, they help students see themselves in them.
