According to Benjamin Luft, MD, Director and Principal Investigator of Stony Brook Medicine's World Trade Center Wellness Program, The Research Foundation for SUNY has been fundamental to the program's success since its earliest years and its efforts demonstrate what sustained institutional support can make possible, such as the projects below, which preserve the legacy of the program and those affected by 9/11.

Remembering 9/11 Oral History Project: a collection of nearly 500 interviews with responders, family members, medical personnel, and advocates is now available through the Library of Congress.

Congressional staff from across New York's federal delegation recently visited Stony Brook University for a two-day retreat highlighting the University's leadership in quantum science, AI, advanced technology, and patient care.

Organized in collaboration with Stony Brook's Office of Federal Relations, the visit included demonstrations at Stony Brook CEWIT, tours of the Quantum Data Center, and insights into Stony Brook Medicine's clinical and research facilities, where staff engaged directly with researchers and clinicians.

More researchers across New York will have new opportunities to strengthen communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills through the expanded UNY Research Leadership Academy.

Following a successful inaugural year, the Academy is expanding systemwide for 2026-2027 through a partnership between SUNY - The State University of New York, SUNY Research, the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, and Stony Brook University.

The expanded program will offer leadership development and communication training, while strengthening connections across research, industry, and innovation ecosystems.
