The Brothers of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Cinco de Mayo!
Also known as the Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, this day honors the historic 1862 military victory over the French forces of Napoleon III. While often confused with Mexican Independence Day (September 16), this holiday specifically commemorates General Ignacio Zaragoza’s unlikely triumph in the state of Puebla.
We take special pride in noting that one of our Distinguished Pillars, Benito Juárez, was serving as the President of Mexico during this monumental battle.
Whether you are observing the day with traditional military parades and battle recreations or celebrating with family, we join you in honoring this legacy of strength and resistance.
