Center for Experiential Pedagogy and Practice at Syracuse University

Center for Experiential Pedagogy and Practice at Syracuse University CEPP specializes in live, face-to-face simulations where learners are able to practice their decision-making and communication skills.

Syracuse University’s Center for Experiential Pedagogy and Practice supports simulations for undergrad and graduate university students and also provides a variety of learning opportunities for professionals (in both digital and in-person formats). 🍊 The Center for Experiential Pedagogy and Practice (CEPP) advances experiential teaching, learning, and professional development for educators, counse

lors, school leaders, and others by engaging faculty and students in basic and applied research and design initiatives across Syracuse University and beyond. We hire and carefully train actors to depict challenging situations professionals may experience in the workplace, allowing learners to practice how they would respond in a non-evaluative space. We also provide space for learners to debrief with colleagues who engaged in the same simulation, allowing students to learn from one another's experience. There is much to celebrate here at the CEPP! Many members of our staff have made impressive achievements recently, including:

Julie, one of our doctoral students, is a recipient of a Joan M. Burstyn Endowed Fund for Collaborative Research in Education. She was also named a winner of the 2024 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.

Jessica, another doctoral student, just had a manuscript accepted to be published in TESOL Quarterly, a top-tier journal.

Nyreé, one of our undergraduate research assistants, is a spring ’25 initiate of the Illustrious Iota Upsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpa Sorority Incorporated. She also presented research on childhood cognitive development and technology at the spring ‘25 Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program’s Research Symposium.

Zachary, another one of our undergraduate research assistants, was just chosen to be both a SOE Class Marshall and a Remembrance Scholar for next year.

Back in January, we invited a group of community members to visit the CEPP to observe a simulation demonstration. They also attended a Q&A session with our staff, our actor and SIM participants to learn more about our work and to explore avenues for collaboration. Are you interested in attending a demonstration to learn more about simulations and exploring possible partnerships? Email us at [email protected]!
