We are down to the final hours. Collection ends tomorrow! 🚎Help Fill the Big Blue Truck! Donations are tax-deductible, so don’t forget to save your receipt and write it off!

The Tacoma Chapter’s Clothing & Household Collection Drive is back with a new twist. This year, we’re partnering with The Big Blue Truck, which is handling the collection and logistics through Value Village’s new donation program.

Don’t worry, for donating– the collection remains the same - continue to collect gently used items, place clothing in white garbage bags (preferably), and bring them to the predesignated collection sites. Look at the acceptable donations list to ensure compliance.

Collection ends on Saturday, Oct 17, 2026 at 5pm PDT.

“Today was a pretty big day in my bone marrow donation journey. 🤎
💬I’ve gone back and forth about sharing this because I never want it to seem like I’m doing this for attention. But I also believe there’s something meaningful about sharing experiences that might encourage someone else to do something that could change another person’s life.

💬I was definitely anxious. This was actually my first time having a procedure without my wife by my side, and anyone who knows me knows that’s a BIG deal for me. She’s usually right there with me through things like this, so not having her here feels very different.

💬But I’m so, so grateful that my mama is here. 🥹🤎 No matter how grown I am, there’s something about having your mom beside you when you’re nervous that makes everything feel a little less scary. Knowing I didn’t have to go through this part alone means more to me than I can explain.

💬I also want to give a special shoutout to the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Zeta Phi Sigma Alumnae Chapter - Tacoma, WA and the for partnering with us and giving me the opportunity to do this. I’m truly grateful for the work you do and for the chance to be part of something that could make such a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

💬So today, I was nervous, grateful, emotional, and reminding myself why I chose to do this in the first place. Somewhere out there, someone needs what I’m able to give, and if going through a little discomfort and fear can give another person a chance at more life, then it’s worth it.

Keena M. Tate is a doctoral researcher, behavioral health professional, and advocate dedicated to advancing understanding of the mental health experiences of Black American women. With more than 13 years of experience in the behavioral health field, she has supported youth and adults as they navigate life's most difficult challenges, empowering individuals and families through compassionate care, meaningful connection, and evidence-based support.

As a doctoral scholar, Keena's research centers on amplifying the voices and lived experiences of Black women, contributing to critical conversations surrounding mental health, wellness, resilience, and equitable care. Her work is deeply informed by both professional practice and a commitment to creating positive change within historically underserved communities.

A Chicago native who has called Las Vegas home for the past 13 years, Keena also spent time in the Pacific Northwest completing her practicum experience and has since returned to Washington State to continue expanding her professional impact while embracing a more peaceful and balanced lifestyle rooted in wellness, personal growth, and connection with nature.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Keena is a lifelong lover of dance, fitness, travel, and adventure. Known for her lighthearted spirit and genuine ability to connect with others, she believes in living life fully, cultivating joy, and creating meaningful experiences wherever she goes. Whether conducting research, supporting clients, or exploring a new destination, Keena brings authenticity, curiosity, and purpose to everything she does.
