Please help us welcome our new faculty member Dr. Andrew Peal. Andrew Peal is a trombonist, educator, and composer based in Tampa, Florida. He is currently a full-time Music Instructor at Hillsborough College and teaches jazz, music theory, and applied brass. Prior to his appointment to HC, he was Assistant Professor of Jazz and Music Theory at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Studio Music and Jazz Performance from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. His doctoral research examines movable-do solfege as an instructional tool in jazz pedagogy.

Dr. Peal has recorded with ensembles such as the South Florida Jazz Orchestra (The Music of Gary Lindsay: Are We Still Dreaming and Cheap Thrills: The Music of Rick Margitza) and the Frost Studio Jazz Band. As a member of these ensembles, he played with renowned artists such as Randy Brecker, Kevin Mahogany, Arturo Sandoval, John Hart, Brian Lynch, Janis Seigel, Tony Succar, Martin Bejerano, and Gregg Field. In addition to being a sideman, his post-bop inspired compositions can be found at apealmusic.com.

Dr. Peal served as teaching assistant for the MusicReach program at the Frost School, which enriches the lives of underserved youth in Miami-Dade County through music. His responsibilities entailed jazz combo instruction and supervision of the undergraduate music students that taught high school students in his program. He has also served as a teaching artist with the Community Arts Program, Young Musicians Unite and the Brownsville Unity Music Project. Welcome to the Hillsborough College Music Department Dr. Peal! We can't begin this journey with you!
