Divine Nine Partnership Promotes Voter Education in Pearland
PEARLAND, TEXAS — On October 3, 2026, The Theta Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the Bay Area Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recently partnered to promote voter education and civic engagement in Pearland.
Led by husband-and-wife duo Bro. Ken Burkins and Dr. Misha Lesley-Burkins, the two Divine Nine organizations hosted a voter-awareness station at KnP Social Restaurant, where community members were encouraged to verify their voter registration status and learn more about the voting process.
The nonpartisan initiative emphasized the importance of understanding election deadlines, confirming registration information and staying informed about polling requirements.
Voter Registration, Education and Mobilization is one of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.’s nationally mandated programs and reflects the Fraternity’s longstanding commitment to Social Action and community service.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. also has a historic commitment to voting rights and civic participation. Shortly after its founding in 1913, members participated in the Woman Suffrage Procession in Washington, D.C. Today, the Sorority continues that legacy through Social Action programs focused on voter education and political awareness.
Bro. Burkins and Dr. Lesley-Burkins have remained active in community initiatives that encourage informed participation in the democratic process. Their leadership helped unite both organizations around a shared mission of civic responsibility and public service.
The partnership carried a simple message to the community: check your registration, know the process, stay informed and exercise your right to vote.
