The FREE UT Tyler All-State Band Workshop is next Saturday, September 12!

Get started on the right foot with this year’s TMEA & ATSSB etudes! Spend the day working with outstanding teachers, tackling challenging passages, and getting tips and strategies to take back to the practice room.

Monday Patriot Milestones 🎓

Congratulations to UT Tyler School of Performing Arts alumnus Jessie Smith (BM '97) on his appointment as Director of Bands at Goldthwaite ISD!

Since graduating from UT Tyler in 1997, Jessie has dedicated 19 years to music education, serving students across Texas while building outstanding band programs and mentoring young musicians. Most recently, he served at Gruver ISD before accepting this new leadership role at Goldthwaite ISD.

Throughout his career, Jessie has been recognized for excellence in music education, including being a recipient of Grammy Music Signature School Award recipient in 2021 and being named a Grammy Music Educator Award Quarterfinalist in both 2025 and 2026.

We are proud to celebrate Jessie's continued impact on music education and wish him great success as he begins this new chapter at Goldthwaite ISD. Congratulations, Jessie, on this exciting career milestone!

A great start to a new year in the UT Tyler School of Performing Arts! 🧡💙

Today we gathered for our annual School of Performing Arts Convocation—bringing our students and faculty together to kick off the year, celebrate our community, and recognize some exciting faculty milestones!

Congratulations to our faculty celebrating years of service at UT Tyler. đź‘Ź
Ms. Vicki Conway — 42 years
Dr. Jeffrey Emge — 25 years
Dr. Kyle Gullings — 15 years

We also celebrated faculty promotions. 🎉

Dr. Sarah Roberts — Full Professor
Ms. Elena Daughtery — Senior Lecturer

We are grateful for the dedication, artistry, teaching, and leadership these faculty members bring to our students and our School of Performing Arts.

Most of all, it was wonderful to have our students and faculty together again. We’re excited for the performances, collaborations, learning, and music-making ahead.

Monday Patriot Milestones 🎓

Congratulations to UT Tyler School of Performing Arts alumna Karrigan Brown (BM '26) on her appointment as Elementary Music Teacher at Dietz Elementary School in Crandall ISD!

After graduating from UT Tyler in 2026 with a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education, Karrigan accepted her first teaching position and will join the team at Dietz Elementary this fall.

Karrigan shared that she "can't believe I finally get to have my dream job of bringing music to the lives of the next generation." We are excited to see her begin her career and know she will make a meaningful impact on her students through music.

Congratulations, Karrigan, on this exciting first step in your professional journey!
