a thought shared by Rabbi Kanefsky of California

The very last thing we need right now is a mindset of mutual distancing -- We need to be thinking in the exact opposite way. Every hand that we don't shake must become a phone call that we do place. Every embrace that we avoid must become a verbal expression of warmth and concern. Every inch and every foot that we physically place between ourselves and another must become a thought as to how we might help one another.

Be safe, and let's draw one another closer in a way that we've never done before.

You are here for a purpose. There is no duplicate of you in the whole wide world. There never has been, there never will be. You were brought here now to fill a certain need. Take time to think that over.
Lou Austin

I found this quote and thought it was a good lesson to live by, especially if you are in conflict with your current and/or former significant other:

Cry. Forgive. Learn. Move on. Let your tears water the seeds of your future happiness.
Steve Maraboli

We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.
Steve Maraboli

Have you taken a summer vacation or staycation with your children? If not, it is not too late to make some plans that will result in lasting memories. Proving that you make your children a priority will go very far not only legally, but in your overall relationship with your children. If you have not claimed time for Labor Day and are entitled to do so, this is also a good time to give thought to exercising your rights for this coming holiday weekend.

Losers live in the past. Winners learn from the past and enjoy working in the present toward the future.
Denis Waitley

I came across this quote this morning and thought it might send a message to those of you going through a difficult conflict with a former significant other:

Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.

Marianne Williamson

With the warm weather now approaching, this is a good time to resolve any outstanding legal issues with your estranged significant other, and be able to enjoy the summer without feeling the pressure and stress of these as ongoing problems for you. By scheduling a conference to speak with us, we can help by providing you with personal, understanding, and strong attention to your legal issues.

Parents of minor children should be considering summer vacation plans now. Please contact our office to learn what legal steps you may need to pursue to share that special time with your children.

There is no better gift a society can give children than the opportunity to grow up safe and free - the chance to pursue whatever dreams they may have.
John Roberts

Happy Mother's Day to all of the selfless mothers, who invest their time and energy to make their children's lives the best they can be.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
Khalil Gibran

We wish each of you a very happy and healthy new year.

“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”

― Plato

“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”

― Plato

“One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.”

― Bryant H. McGill

For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.”

― Abraham Lincoln

“If you raise your children to feel that they can accomplish any goal or task they decide upon, you will have succeeded as a parent and you will have given your children the greatest of all blessings.”

― Brian Tracy

To help yourself, you must be yourself. Be the best that you can be. When you make a mistake, learn from it, pick yourself up and move on.
— Dave Pelzer

As a parent, just as for children, we do err, and can learn from out mistakes to become better parents.

“A man's worth is measured by how he parents his children. What he gives them, what he keeps away from them, the lessons he teaches and the lessons he allows them to learn on their own. Thankfully, there is no measurement great enough to measure the worth of my father.”

― Lisa Rogers

Happy Father's Day to all of those great dads who have devoted countless time and energy to their children.

I saw this quote and thought about how appropriate it was for each of us to be mindful of the effects on our children from any stress of the holiday season and the coming of the end of this year. Our children feel our stress and appreciate when there are conflicts, even if they do not fully understand what is occurring.

“When faced with a challenge, happy families, like happy people, just add a new chapter to their life story that shows them overcoming the hardship. This skill is particularly important for children, whose identity tends to get locked in during adolescence.”

― Bruce Feiler

As the holidays are upon us, this is an important time to remember what is really important and to especially pay each of your family members the respect they deserve. This advice extends to your children. Allow for them to enjoy the holidays with glee rather than to dread them due to conflict. If we can help, please contact us.

The quote below from Channing reminds parents to take to heart that what you demonstrate in your home to your children teaches them the values that they learn and will emulate.

The home is the chief school of human virtues.
— William Ellery Channing

“If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”

― Michael Jordan

Although it may feel cold and seem far away, now is the time to start making your summer plans and informing the other parent of your children of those plans, including the dates, locations of intended travel, and any flight or train itineraries. You will save yourself a lot of problems if you act early rather than waiting to try and resolve conflicts that arise when the same dates of travel are selected by both parents.

I came across the quote below from Abraham Lincoln, and thought how much these words could help each of us as we begin this year. Before making any decisions about legal matters, it may prove very beneficial to each of us to evaluate with legal counsel how your decisions regarding your children, your marriage/relationship, etc. might allow for quality in your life versus the risk of adverse repercussions from informed decisions.

“In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.”

― Abraham Lincoln
