On today's Faculty Spotlight, meet Dr. Magdalena Pando, Associate Professor of Bilingual Education and Co-director of the MBE program at SMU’s Department of Teaching and Learning! 🌟

With a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction and extensive expertise in STEM education, bilingualism, and culturally responsive teaching, Dr. Pando is dedicated to fostering equity, access, and opportunity in education. Her research explores model-based inquiry methods in STEM, focusing on how English language learners engage in evidence-based argumentation and explanation.

Passionate about preparing future educators, Dr. Pando also leads efforts in teacher preparation and professional development, ensuring that classrooms are inclusive, culturally responsive, and linguistically diverse from early childhood through K-12.

What a powerful discussion at the Roots and Routes seminar on March 28th! 💡✨

Sponsored by the Simmons PhD Department as part of the 2025 Education Speaker Series, this event brought together incredible guest speakers and an audience eager to explore the role of community and data in education.

Dr. Bianca Baldridge (Harvard Graduate School of Education) and Dr. Eric Dearing (Boston College) joined Dr. Toni Harrison-Kelly (Simmons Director of Recruitment, Retention & Alumni Affairs) to share their research and passion exploring the roots of educational issues and charting new routes for a strong future in education.
