Congratulations to Lylanne Musselman! She is an artist, poet, and playwright. She is the author of several published chapbooks—including Staring Dementia in the Face—as well as full-length poetry collections. Her work appears widely across numerous literary journals and anthologies, such as Pank, Tipton Poetry Journal, and Flying Island. We are fortunate that she is an adjunct instructor at UINDY, working with students in Intro to College Writing and Basic Writing.
In her new poetry collection, Lylanne Musselman takes readers on a tour through a life shaped by the music and pop culture of the 1960s and ‘70s. From ordinary childhood and the turbulent years of early adulthood through Boomer retirement, her life is displayed.
Candid and nostalgic, her poetry explores the inner child who never quite disappeared and the woman looking back at the songs, people, and moments that helped make her who she is.If the music of the ‘60s and ‘70s plays as the soundtrack of your life, In My Life will have you singing along.
Curtis L. Crisler, our Indiana Poet Laureate and author of Doing Drive-bys on How to Love in the Midwest, says of In My Life, “The robust howls that come back to the us we didn’t know we’d become trek like an agitated Amtrak rolling over hot-steel within In My Life: (A Pop Culture Poetry Memoir). Musselman’s pulsing prose-poetry persists “we wrote our way out of ordinary”—combined with the familial splatters of joy and pain rumbling amidst language roaring in a historical soundtrack for some validity. Here, the artist’s greedy word-portraits eat your heart alive. And you relish being consumed.”
