Simmons College Access held its annual Upward Bound & Upward Bound Math-Science camps last week for high school students throughout the Dallas area. The camps, held on SMU's campus, are designed to give students a taste of classes available at universities like this graphic design class taught by instructor Brittera Sales (Lakeview Centennial High School Instructor). We are proud to celebrate Dr. Kate Montgomery, Chair of Human-Centered Interdisciplinary Studies, and Dr. Robert Hunt, Director of Global Theological Education, who presented at IAFOR's European Conference of Arts and Humanities and European Conference of Education in London this week!

Their workshop, “Technology, Humanity, Identity, and Soul in the Age of AI,” explored what it means to be human during the rise of artificial intelligence and how the use of AI affects an individual’s concept of identity at both personal and societal levels. They offered strategies for engaging with emerging technologies in humanities scholarship, pedagogy, and practice.

We're proud to see their research and perspectives shared on the global stage!

Congratulations to Dr. Mario De La Garza, who begins his term as TCA President-Elect today!

TCA is the largest and most influential counseling association in Texas with about 7500+ members. The TCA President and TCA staff work to educate and advocate to advance the counseling profession, to ensure access to professional counseling across a variety of different settings in Texas, and to promote the wellness of our citizens through professional helping.

When a TCA President is elected, they serve a 3-year term with 1 year as President-Elect, 1 year as President, and finally 1 year as the Immediate Past President.

We are very proud of Dr. De La Garza and look forward to his term as our State's President-Elect in professional counseling. His dedication and professional service have earned him a stellar reputation and, by extension, brought significant positive visibility to the Department of Counseling and the Simmons School of Education and Human Development.

We are excited to see Michael Harris as Simmons Dean ad interim! ✨

🤖🧠 We're celebrating the publication of a groundbreaking international collaboration in Educational Researcher, the flagship journal of AERA!

The new article - “Strengthening Human Epistemic Agency in the Symbiotic Learning Partnership With Generative Artificial Intelligence” - explores how learners can build deeper understanding and agency when engaging with GenAI as a knowledge partner.

👏 Huge congratulations to Dr. Jiun-Yu Wu and the international co-author team from Taiwan and the U.S. for leading this timely and impactful contribution to the conversation on AI in education!

The study offers a conceptual framework that reimagines the Human-AI relationship not as replacement, but as symbiosis to empower human thinking, inquiry, and meaning-making in the age of generative AI.
