Studying abroad can come with a kind of loneliness that’s difficult to explain.

You’re grateful for the opportunity, so admitting that you’re struggling can feel almost impossible. You don’t want to call home and say, “I’m not okay,” because you’re afraid it will sound like you don’t appreciate everything you have.

But struggling doesn’t make you ungrateful.

🎙️ In this episode of Global Student Voices, we talk about why students abroad can find it so difficult to open up when they’re struggling and what that experience can really feel like.

In Part 1, you created your account and completed the Chevening application form. Now it’s time to complete the remaining steps.

Step 5: Apply to UK Universities

Submitting your Chevening application does not apply you to universities. You must apply separately to your three chosen UK master’s degree programmes through each university’s official website.

Research each course carefully and compare the entry requirements, tuition fees, and application deadlines. Apply as early as possible and prepare all the required documents.

To meet the Chevening Scholarship requirements, you must receive an unconditional offer from at least one of your chosen courses before the deadline in the official Chevening timeline.

Step 6: Add Your Referees

Provide the names and contact details of two referees who know you professionally or academically. They should not be relatives or close friends.

If you are invited for an interview, you will need to upload two reference letters written in English, so let your referees know well in advance.

Step 7: Answer the Essay Questions

You will answer four essays on leadership, networking, studying in the UK, and your career plans. Each essay can be up to 500 words.

Use real examples from your own experience and structure your answers using the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, and Result.

Step 8: Complete the Equal Opportunities Section

Answer the equal opportunities questions. This information helps Chevening monitor diversity and accessibility and does not affect your application.

Step 9: Review and Submit

Before submitting, read through your entire application, correct any mistakes, and make sure nothing is missing.

Once you are satisfied with your application, submit it before the deadline and keep checking your email for updates from Chevening.

Good preparation and careful attention to detail can make a big difference in the strength of your application.

Good luck! 🎓

If this guide helped you, save it for later and share it with someone who is applying for Chevening.

Applying for a Chevening Scholarship starts long before you click “Submit.” Taking the time to understand the application process can help you avoid common mistakes.

Step 1: Register for a Chevening Account

When applications open, visit the official Chevening website and create an account using a valid email address.

Make sure you use an email address you will continue to access throughout the application process because Chevening will use it to send important updates.

After registering, check your inbox for a confirmation email and click the verification link to activate your account.

If you don’t receive it, check your spam or junk folder and confirm that you entered your email address correctly.

Step 2: Log In

Once your account is activated, sign in using your email address and password.

Take a few minutes to explore the application dashboard. This is where you will complete your application, save your progress, and return later if you need more time.

Step 3: Start Your Application

Complete the eligibility checker to confirm that you meet the basic requirements for the scholarship.

If you are eligible, the system will generate a unique access code. Save this code in a safe place because you may need it if you lose access to your application.

Next, select the Chevening Scholarship programme and begin your application.

Before entering any information, read the instructions carefully so you understand what is required in each section.

Step 4: Complete the Application Form

Complete each section carefully and save your work often.

The application system automatically logs you out after 15 minutes of inactivity, so saving regularly will help you avoid losing your progress.

Fill in your personal details, immigration details, education history, work history, and your three preferred UK master’s degree courses.

Make sure all the information is accurate and matches your official documents.

You’ve only completed the setup.

Follow for Part 2, where I’ll show you how to tackle the sections that have the biggest impact on your application, including choosing your UK universities, selecting your referees etc
