🚨 Michigan Primary Election Day is Tuesday, August 4! 🚨

Whether you're casting your first ballot as a college student or have been voting for years, your voice matters.

✅ Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time. If you're in line by 8:00 p.m., stay in line and cast your ballot.

Not sure where to vote or what's on your ballot? The Michigan Voter Information Center makes it easy to:

• Check your voter registration
• Find your polling place or early voting location
• View your sample ballot
• Locate your local clerk's office

Happy Independence Day from the American Democracy Project at Indiana University South Bend!

As we celebrate Independence Day and begin America's 250th year, we have an opportunity to reflect on the ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence and what they continue to mean today.

The Declaration articulated a bold vision of human equality, individual rights, and government by the consent of the governed. Those principles have inspired generations of Americans and democratic reformers around the world.

At the same time, our nation's history reminds us that these ideals have never been fully realized for everyone. Expanding liberty, equality, representation, and opportunity has required the sustained efforts of countless individuals and movements across generations—and that work continues today.

As we commemorate the founding of the United States, let us reflect on both the power of these ideals and our shared responsibility to work together in the continual quest to build a society that more fully lives up to these timeless ideals.
