Our Pre-apprentice Electrical Lineworker students are out in the field today, learning to install power lines on utility poles. This real-world training is preparing them for essential careers in the power industry—where safety, skill, and strength matter most. 💪

Microbiology in Action! 🧫🔬

Our microbiology students are taking science into the real world by testing common household items for their ability to inhibit the growth of E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus—two bacteria commonly found in the home.

Using a modified Kirby-Bauer test, students placed discs soaked in bleach solution, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, antibacterial soap, and honey onto agar plates inoculated with the bacteria. The resulting zones of inhibition help determine which items are most effective at stopping bacterial growth.

Forty-eight contestants joined us on campus for the Written Communication portion of this year’s Miss National Peanut Festival Pageant. They also drew their contestant numbers, found out who their pageant weekend roommates will be, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and explored everything our campus has to offer.

Wallace Community College is proud to have hosted the National Peanut Festival contestants for nearly 50 years — a tradition we look forward to each year! 🥜🎓

In support of these remarkable young women, Wallace Community College awarded each of this year’s contestants a scholarship to WCC, along with the runners-up and Miss Congeniality winners from each preliminary pageant.

Biology 103 students at WCC are currently examining the fundamental principles of osmosis. Through this hands-on experiment, they are analyzing how cells respond to various solutions—hypotonic, hypertonic, and isotonic—and understanding the crucial role osmosis plays in maintaining cellular equilibrium.
