The University of Arizona stands on the ancestral lands of the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui peoples, who have stewarded this region since time immemorial. In commitment to a diverse and inclusive community, we recognize the cultures and histories that shape the Wildcat community, honoring the identities of Arizona’s 22 sovereign nations.

November is Native American Heritage Month. We encourage you to celebrate the achievements of Indigenous peoples and communities in Tucson and the Southwest.

University of Arizona Land Acknowledgement:
We respectfully acknowledge the University of Arizona is on the land and territories of Indigenous peoples. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes, with Tucson being home to the O’odham and the Yaqui. Committed to diversity and inclusion, the University strives to build sustainable relationships with sovereign Native Nations and Indigenous communities through education offerings, partnerships, and community service.

Robin Greenfield (@/robjgreenfield) is a 37-year-old environmental activist. He is known for his attention-grabbing tactics to help raise awareness of sustainability issues.

In 2013, Robin cycled 4,700 miles across the United States using a bike made of bamboo, traveling using only his own power except for one single mile. During this expedition, he used water from a fire hydrant in New York City for five days to raise awareness about water waste, and 70% (around 280 pounds of food) of his diet came from grocery stores’ dumpsters to raise awareness of food waste. In 2024, Robin is setting off to eat nothing but school lunches for 30 days to highlight the industrial food system and how it impacts our health. In the process, he will also explore solutions and alternatives for schools to use in place of or alongside school lunches. Among his many endeavors within environmental activism, Robin also has several community programs. One program is known as Seeds to the People!, which sends seeds and instructions on how to grow a garden to low-income families and schools who face financial barriers that limit their access to healthy foods.

If you are interested in learning more about Robin, his environmental activism, and his different programs, be sure to check out the liink in our bio!
