Thanks to a $38 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Missouri S&T and the UM System will continue to help rebuild America’s domestic critical minerals supply chain through the Regional Innovation and Technology Hub.

S&T’s Critical Minerals and Materials for Advanced Energy (CM2AE) Tech Hub will construct an 18,000-square-foot pilot-scale test-bed facility while also supporting regional coordination and accelerating the development and commercialization of technologies used to process minerals that are vital to America's economic and national security.

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) selected the University of Missouri System Critical Materials Crossroads as an awardee of the NSF Regional Innovation Engines (NSF Engines) program, which comes with up to $160 million in funding.

UM System leaders expressed their thanks after Gov. Mike Kehoe signed the FY 2027 budget bills into law Tuesday. The System will receive just over $522 million in core funding to support programs and initiatives across the state.
