Congratulations to Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Illinois), a nurse who previously taught at our School of Nursing and continues to proudly support and represent our profession.

Twenty-eight Hoyas were sworn into the 119th U.S. Congress on Jan. 3, continuing Georgetown’s long legacy of producing leaders and public servants.

Hoyas in the 119th Congress include 21 representatives and seven U.S. senators who represent 18 states and the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which have non-voting delegates. They also include faculty and alumni from nearly all of Georgetown’s schools, including 12 faculty and alumni from Georgetown Law and nine alumni from the School of Foreign Service. https://bit.ly/4adgspl

Earlier this week, six faculty members and 18 graduate nursing students demonstrated the power of advocacy on Capitol Hill.

They focused on promoting nurse-midwives and WHNPs as essential to addressing the ongoing perinatal health care crisis. They met with members of legislative offices to discuss three transformative bills: the Momnibus Act, the MOMS Act, and the I CAN Act.

These efforts highlight the critical role nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners play in driving health care solutions.

: For many undergraduates, summer is filled with travel, time spent at the pool, reconnecting with friends and family, and enjoying down time between academic years. For School of Nursing students on an ROTC scholarship, duty calls.

As recipient of a Navy ROTC scholarship, BSN student Sydney Blackston (N’25) fulfilled her required 2024 summer duty in Okinawa, Japan. For three weeks in May, she shadowed nurses at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa on Camp Foster.

Army ROTC cadet Erin Dombroski (N’25) spent part of her summer at Fort Johnson in Vernon Parish, Louisiana.

Make a gift on , 12/3, to support future Hoyas like Sydney and Erin in their service of others.
