Common Ground is a program through American University's School of Education that equips D.C. high schoolers with the research, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills they need to become active decision-makers and change agents in their communities. We bring students together on several Saturdays throughout the school year to engage in workshops centered on community-base
d research, civic engagement, design thinking, creative placemaking, and community development.
As students gain practical research and design skills, and knowledge about the culture and history of their community, we provide a platform for them to work on proposals for projects that reimagine public space as the heart of their community using visual arts, film, storytelling, music, design and more. Become part of a united generation of leaders in the District of Columbia passionate about civic engagement and amplifying the voices of their communities!
