Judge Elihu Berle based his decision on a state law that requires businesses with at least 10 employees to notify Californians about chemical exposure that can cause cancer and birth defects, report the Associated Press, the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.

The American University Washington College of Law Health Law & Policy Students Association and the Health Law & Policy Brief are pleased to invite you to our 2018 joint spring symposium, "Health Data Privacy & Security: Emerging Issues in mHealth, Wearables, and the Internet of Things."

We are recruiting board members for the Health Law & Policy Students Association (HLPSA)! Apply to become part of our team!

Please submit your application materials by 12pm (noon) on Friday, March 23. Please submit them to Rihana Miller at [email protected] AND Alexis Rose [email protected]. Include a resume (without GPA) and cover letter indicating the position to which you are applying. Communications Director applicants only -- please create a poster for a make-believe HLPSA event, using whatever format you'd like, and attach along with your other application materials.

If you are applying for a Board position, please indicate a second choice or if you would be willing to serve as a Staff member.

Information about the available positions is included below. If you have questions about the positions or about HLPSA, please feel free to contact us at the email addresses above or ask any Board members you see around WCL.

President shall call all meetings for HLPSA; preside over all meetings of HLPSA; define the agenda of the HLPSA during his or her tenure; act as the official representative of the HLPSA to other groups and the media; be capable of co-signing checks for SBA-approved events; and be the point of contact for events held by HLPSA, except for the annual symposium, which will be the duty of the Symposium Director, or other events upon designation.

Vice President shall: assist the President in the performance of his or her duties, including helping to define the agenda for HLPSA events during his or her tenure, and evaluating the progress of the Executive Board and organization as a whole; act as President when the President is unable to perform his or her duties; assume the office of the President if the President is unable to perform his/her duties until an election can be held; and take on projects of his or her choosing.

Treasurer shall: manage the bank account and SBA-approved budget; be capable of co-signing checks for SBA-approved events; and take on projects of his or her choosing.

Symposium Director shall: select the topic for the annual symposium, with the approval of the Executive Board; communicate and secure speakers to attend the symposium; coordinate with WCL faculty to assist in the planning of the symposium; communicate with any student organizations that are co-sponsoring the symposium; promote the symposium; and communicate with faculty to book rooms, buy food, and obtain CLE accreditation when necessary with regard to the symposium.

Communications Director shall: maintain and regularly update all HLPSA’s social networking sites (Twitter, Facebook, and MailChimp); promptly e-mail all members about changes to agenda, important events both at WCL and around DC, and any other necessary information; coordinate with the Symposium Director and Director of Career Programing to promote the Symposium and Career Panels; promote HLPSA events through online and in-person communication (e.g. flyers); and disburse a monthly e-mail with health law related events, news, and job postings.

Director of Career Programing shall: communicate and secure speakers to attend at least one career panel per year; coordinate with WCL faculty to assist in the planning the career panel(s); communicate with any student organizations that are co-sponsoring the career panel(s); promote the career panel; and communicate with faculty to book rooms, buy food, and obtain CLE accreditation when necessary.

Secretary shall: Take minutes of all formal HLPSA meetings; have supervisory power over all of the Committees; and, take on projects of his or her choosing.
