GSPM is proud to support Students for Mental Health Action (SMHA) and the incredible work they are doing.

Founded by Ethan Fitzgerald, a GSPM graduate student and the SMHA's current executive director, last week's activities illustrate their commitment to building a student-led advocacy movement that connects lived experience with concrete policy action.

From hosting a student mental health panel on Capitol Hill, where five SMHA students shared their personal stories and enlightened congressional staffers, to on-campus Advocacy Action Day to key Majority and Minority staff meetings on the Hill to urge action on student mental health—SMHA's momentum is only beginning.

This is what the future of Political Management looks like, and we're so proud to have GSPM students taking the lead. Way to go, SMHA!

What can we learn from our own political history?

Read GSPM Professor Matt Dallek’s guest essay in the New York Times with findings from GWU-supported research on failed assassination attempts and political violence in modern America.

📣 New Partnership Announcement

Adrian College and The George Washington University have signed a new memorandum of understanding to expand opportunities for students through the GW's Semester in Washington (SIW) program.

Through SIW, students can live, learn, and work in Washington, D.C.—earning academic credit while gaining hands-on experience through internships on Capitol Hill, with leading organizations, and across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to expanding access to high-impact, experiential education that prepares students to lead,” said Dean Liesl Riddle, PhD of GW's College of Professional Studies.

From immersive coursework to real-world projects and professional networking, SIW connects classroom learning to meaningful career pathways.

This is a win for students, a win for institutions—and a powerful step forward in preparing the next generation of leaders.

It was a full house at Thursday's 2026 Paul O'Dwyer Endowed Forum for Political Ethics where our moderator Nneka Chiazor, President and CEO of the Public Affairs Council, led an incredible conversation with our panelists: The Hon. Michael Capuano, former Congressman (D-MA, 1999–2019), The Hon. Mimi Walters, former Congresswoman (R-CA, 2015–2019), and Brody Mullins, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist.

An enormous thank you to our distinguished guests and to everyone who joined the discussion on civility and ethical leadership in our increasingly polarized political environment.

We'd also like to thank our co-sponsors, Chief Influencer® and Former Members of Congress (FMC), for supporting conversations that highlight the importance of ethical leadership in American politics.

It was a great honor to speak at George Washington University’s Democracy 250 event. Despite the difficult moments we’re experiencing, which are testing the strength of our democracy, what continues to give me optimism is the engagement of the American people. But most of all, our students, who are among the most engaged young people I have ever seen!
