Georgetown University Interfaith Service Campus Challenge

Join Georgetown's Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge throughout the 2012-2013 academic year! In it's second year, the White House invited institutions of higher education to commit to a year of interfaith and community service programming on campus. Georgetown is responding to the interfaith service challenge with a program on: “Combating Domestic Poverty and Improving Educational Opportunity.” President DeGioia has set up a Taskforce on Faith and Social Action at Georgetown, made up of faculty, students, and staff, to oversee and implement the program’s main goals: - To deepen connections between campus faith communities and begin new anti-poverty and educational initiatives with an interfaith component; - To further faculty-student-staff dialogue around interfaith and social justice issues through faculty-student exchanges and symposia; - To strengthen Georgetown University's ties with DC-based interfaith communities engaged around education and poverty issues. Planned activities include: • Sustained Roundtable Dialogue Series - one per semester • 9/11 Service Events - September 2012 • Patrick Healy Fellows and the 25 Days of Service Initiative - October 2012 • Religious Services Open House Series - October 2012 • Interfaith Thanksgiving Service - November 2012 • Georgetown Angel Book Drive - December 2012 • The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service - January 2013 • Alternative Spring Break Program - March 2013 • Year-End Symposium - April 2013

How a Muslim Experienced Agape at Puja

Great article about interfaith cooperation between Hindus and Muslims at Georgetown written by Aamir Hussain, former president of the GU Interfaith Students Association.

The Hindu students went out of their way to make me feel comfortable, and were not offended when I abstained from certain prayers, rituals, and chants that I felt were contrary to my Muslim beliefs.

Diwali: A Unique Opportunity For Muslims To Engage In Interfaith Dialogue

In case you missed it, check out a great article written by Georgetown's own Aamir Hussain about the possibility of Hindu-Muslim dialogue around the festival of Diwali!

For Muslims, Diwali can be a time to reflect on complex spiritual and theological questions. The common symbolism of light is an excellent platform for interfaith dialogue and deep philosophical discussion.
