Georgetown Right to Life

Georgetown Right to Life Students dedicated to defending life from conception to natural death. VITA SAXA!!

We are a student organization dedicated to protecting human life from beginning to end. We strongly believe in equal rights for men and women, no matter who they are, no matter where they live. . . even if they are living in the womb. We believe that through persistent effort we can and will create a society in which abortion, euthanasia, and the death penalty have no place. We respect and value life in and of itself, and we are committed to working in concrete ways to promote the dignity of each individual

Out next board member we'd like to introduce is Kerry! Kerry is a junior studying International Politics & Arabic in the SFS. When not procrastinating by running/biking around the monuments, wandering Trader Joe’s, or cultivating marginally useful skillsets (most recently, primitive graphic design), she can be found illicitly studying in the graduate student study lounge, mapping out terrorist attacks for her work as a Research Assistant, or baking for her professional (Foreign Service) sorority. Kerry has a great passion for service and we are so lucky to have her on our board. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication, Kerry!! 💙

Hi everyone! By way of introduction, my name is Kerry & I’m the service chair of RTL this semester.

This year, RTL is participating in Dance Marathon on November 9th to raise funds for our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital: to help provide life-saving care to sick and injured kids in need.

Whether you are new to RTL or a returning member, we’d love to have you join our team — and even if you can’t join us for the event itself, a donation of any size would be a huge help towards helping us achieve our goal.

Please consider donating at the link below, and reach out to me with any questions!

Check out the Hoya’s recap on our 3rd Annual Lives Worthy of Respect Panel. Thank you Georgetown University Catholic Ministry and Dr. Donovan for helping make this event a success.

In the “Lives Worthy of Respect” panel event in Dahlgren Chapel, hosted by Georgetown University Right to Life, panelists claimed science and faith did not stand in opposition to each other regarding the topic of abortion.

Why Four in Five Americans Disapprove of Congress

"Instead of offering new protections to living infants, the bill was designed for its capacity to rally a base. Looking past initial reactions to this Senate vote, we must consider how, if there were indeed no protections against murder for infants in this country, the Senate may very well have unanimously supported it, or at least some functional version."

Another great diaper drive to finish up life week!

"Too often, we tend to curl up in our ideological comfort zones and ignore the essential questions pertaining to our views on an array of controversial issues. This lack of dialogue leaves us clinging to our opinions based on what our friends believe or the (usually incorrect) presumptions we make about those who disagree with us."

Check out Mike Rushka's piece on the importance of engaging with those that have different opinions.

We Care For You and Your Wellbeing

"In reality, to be pro-life should mean to advocate for the birth of each human, stand for the health and wellbeing of each individual, and to push for reforms that allow for high-quality, longer lives."

Check out Andrea Carballo's thoughts on why the pro-life movement should be more than a pro-birth movement and how Georgetown plays a role in this by offering resources that promote the wellbeing of all people.

Though the motives of the pro-life movement are intended to support people of all ages and backgrounds, it is often and regrettably simplified to a pro-birth movement.   In reality, to be pro-…

New York: A Step Backwards but a Reminder to Push Forward

"For the pro-life movement, New York is both a setback and a tragedy. But more importantly, it is a reminder that, as the stakes increase, we become even more duty-bound to fight to see all lives valued."

Check out Taryn Wolfsohn's reflection on the Reproductive Health Act signed in New York.

If you had asked me a week ago my thoughts on the direction of our nation in terms of the pro-life movement due to the recent political events in New York, I would have told you that I was m…

Reflections on My First March For Life

"Despite there being groups with opposing views on practically every issue other than abortion, everyone was able to march side-by-side in solidarity. Even counter-protesters were standing peacefully next to pro-life groups. Everyone was truly showing respect for all life, helping to make the culture of life we are fighting for a reality."

Read Hunter Estes’s awesome response to a Hoya Viewpoint discouraging attendance from Saturday’s The Cardinal O'Connor Conference on Life.

As an organization that defends the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death, RTL is in proud support of the Conference, and all the students who work tirelessly to organize it each year.

"I ask, if you are so opposed to the Catholic Church’s most basic teaching in regard to inherent human dignity that you think it needs to be opposed by the student community, then why attend a Catholic school?

If you as an individual become incensed when people around you do not fit into the rigorous orthodoxy of your liberal opinion, then the real world is going to hit you like a ton of bricks."

Happy New Year from Right to Life! As we move forward into 2019, we wanted to look back at some of 2018's pro-life victories (hint: there were many!)

We hope you will join us in Washington D.C. on January 18 for the March for Life to start 2019 on the right foot!

Despite the Odds, Mary Said Yes

"If even the Messiah can enter the world in less than ideal circumstances, born into a family that was unprepared for his arrival, in order to fulfill his mission on earth, the rest of humanity can too. This is who God chose to give birth to and raise His only son: an engaged teenager of modest means. God has always seen the worth of those the world views as powerless, and he has demonstrated through them his love for the world."

As we prepare for another holiday, let's look back at Erica Lizza's reminder to provide for mothers and children in need, and to have hope even in the most dire circumstances.

Happy Holidays from Georgetown Right to Life!

Planned Parenthood Is Accused of Mistreating Pregnant Employees

“In interviews and legal documents, women at Planned Parenthood and other organizations with a feminist bent described discrimination that violated federal or state laws — managers considering pregnancy in hiring decisions, for example, or denying rest breaks recommended by a doctor.”

Women deserve better. Pregnancy should be celebrated, not punished.

Employers that champion women face accusations of discriminating against their pregnant workers, showing how widespread the problem is in American workplaces.
