GW Office for Study Abroad and Student Exchange

GW Office for Study Abroad and Student Exchange The Office for Study Abroad (OSA) provides and facilitates quality international educational opportunities at The George Washington University.

As educators, we promote the academic, personal, professional, and intercultural development of students before, during, and after their study abroad experiences. We respond effectively to student needs, contribute to campus internationalization, and foster cultural understanding and self-awareness among the student body. The OSA primarily works with undergraduate students; some short-term, faculty-led graduate programs are administered through the OSA as well.

: “While I absolutely loved traveling around Europe and exploring other areas of London, there will always be a place in my heart for my home base in Southwark. Its proximity to the Thames and South Bank made it so easy to have a fun day without traveling too far! I often enjoyed trips to Tate Modern, Tower Bridge, and Bankside- making the most of the art, views, and food in the area. Here are some of my favorite photos and videos from my time spent south of the river this past semester!”

.eh12 : “Back in May, I made my journey back to the US after my time in Botswana. My last week in Gaborone consisted of lots of fun with my friends and buying some last-minute gifts to take home with me. In addition to wrapping up my time with the program, I had my last day of work at Mokolodi Nature Reserve. One of the hardest goodbyes was the one with all my animal co-workers! I look back on my time in Botswana with happiness and with it being a period of growth. I made some amazing friends, both local and through my program, and was sad to say goodbye to them.”

: “Before GW Madrid came to a close, our program took us on one last trip. We went to the north of Spain: Burgos, Rioja, and Navarra. We saw the original castle that the snow white castle was modeled after. The views were so beautiful. We also went to the Real Monastario de Santa María la Real de las huelgas to see medieval textiles and the Bodegas del Marqués de Riscal to learn about the process of making wine. Overall, I learned a lot of niche history and enjoyed a slower weekend outside of Madrid!”

: “Before the semester ended and everyone flew home, some of my closest friends and I rented an airbnb in Kinsale, Ireland. Those 3 days hold some of my favorite memories. We cooked meals, played games, watched movies, and soaked up our last few moments together.”

: “The last weekend before finals I managed to go on one more adventure to Italy! I was fortunate to spend time in Rome with a friend who lives there and afterwards go north to spend time with a friend near Terni. I got to see a few sights but more than anything it was about spending valuable time with friends. As far as final, adventurous weekends go it was excellent. I am very thankful for all of the exciting trips I managed to take this past semester.”

: “This week I went to Amsterdam with my best friends from GW! This was one of many times I’ve been back to Amsterdam after studying in the Netherlands for two years. We went for Koningsdag or King’s Day which is a national holiday celebrating the King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. This was my third Koningsdag and the most fun yet. Similar to 4th of July, the Dutch wear orange and other patriotic symbols and have a big street festival all day. The canals were full of people in boats, on the streets, and in window seals. We also went to Lisse famous for its tulip fields. The best part about spring in the Netherlands has to be the rows and rows of tulip fields. Lastly, we went the Van Gogh Museum to and Universiteit van Amsterdam to look into potential masters programs.”

.eh12 : “For one last final trip my friends and I went to Cairo, Egypt during our reading week before finals. We had so much fun, we spent all day exploring the Pyramids , Memphis, and Saqqara and learning so much. We are all so interested in this history and had so much fun nerding out. We also went to the Grand Egypt Museum, a bucklist item for me, and a cruise on the Nile. It was an incredible trip!“

: “After a magical week in Italy at the beginning of April, I returned to London to complete my finals. I spent a few weeks just writing papers, having drinks and dinners with friends, and visiting some of my favorite coffee shops the city has to offer (wolfox, oat, and gail’s are the three pictured here if you’re looking for recs)! I’m so grateful the city started to bloom while I was away so I could spend time outside in between working :) I was shocked to see just how many tulips and cherry blossom trees London has in the spring, it felt like a piece of DC was there with me! 🌸🌷”

@1.zaraia.23 : As our study abroad program is coming to a close we all went up to Mussoorie to present our research papers! The ISP was one of my favorite sorts of being abroad and white it was challenging it was also rewarding. For my ISP I wrote a paper on .jamkhed s*x education curriculum and how their community based health care model influences consent and practices and consent negation between married couples. 12 interviews later, 2 translators and a whole lot of research I’m finished and I’m so proud of the work we did…. And celebrating in Mussoorie was pretty fun too.

: Milano! We walked around the duomo di milano, the ambrosian library, chinatown, sforzesco castle, and had a nice picnic in parco sempione. We also went on a day trip to Lake Como where we took a bus up to bellagio. The lake was so beautiful and it was a very sunny 25C day, perfect for sightseeing. The very highlight was celebrating my friends 21st birthday on a beautiful rooftop. There was so much excitement and energy in the air due to labour day concerts/protests and talk about the next pope. This trip came at the right time and I’m very grateful to have gotten the opportunity to go!
