A new study led by researchers at Purdue Biochemistry and the ‌National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute found a surprising link to HIV.

Their study shows that CD46, a protein that several pathogenic bacteria and viruses exploit, controls how human CD4 T cells survive, respond to infection and regulate viral gene activity.

This work, reported in Science Immunology, could provide a better understanding of CD46, helping researchers develop new therapies for diseases associated with perturbed T-cell function.

Congratulations to the 2025 SPRING Portal project team from Purdue University’s AgBridge Workforce Development Program on receiving the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Educational Aids Blue Ribbon Award! 🏆

This award recognizes outstanding informational materials that help advance the understanding of agricultural and biological engineering beyond traditional classroom settings. The SPRING Portal team is a great example of that impact in action.

So, what did their team do?

They used some SPRING tools and sensors to build a website that displayed a simplified version of data points. Their website helps educators teach data visualization, like how to read a graph, by using real data published by IoT4Ag, partners and students from a simplified SPRING unit at their school.

On Friday, Ozan Ciftci was named the William R. Scholle Endowed Chair in Food Processing at Purdue University!

As a Purdue Food Science professor and the director and principal investigator of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Global Center for Food Innovation and Diversification to Advance the Bioeconomy (FoodID), Ciftci continues to advance research in sustainable food processing, food waste upcycling, next-generation food design and technologies that can help shape future food systems.

This recognition reflects his contributions to research, innovation and the advancement of food science.

Happy ! In recognition, we’re highlighting research that’s addressing challenges both in space and right here on Earth.

In microgravity, carbon dioxide doesn’t behave the way it does on Earth. Instead of naturally moving away, exhaled CO₂ can linger around an astronaut’s face, making effective air circulation especially important.

Purdue University ABE researchers are developing CO₂ sensors that could help spacecraft better detect and respond to these changes in real time. This technology could help improve air circulation in other locations, too.

Purdue University Indianapolis campus just took one giant step forward, supporting to initiative!

Leaders from Purdue, Elanco Pet Health and the city of Indianapolis gathered October 6 to officially break ground on the new One Health Research Institute near downtown.

As the One Health Innovation District continues to grow, the institute will bring together researchers, industry and entrepreneurial partners to accelerate discoveries, turning them into solutions that improve human, animal and environmental health.

We’re excited to see this partnership between Purdue and Elanco help advance the future of One Health.

We’re sharing Brody Cox’s story for National 4-H Week! 🍀

Studying Purdue Agricultural Economics, Brody has had the opportunity to apply what he’s learned through Indiana 4-H while building skills in animal care, customer service and entrepreneurship.

In the future, Brody hopes to specialize in legal issues affecting farms, agribusinesses and food productions - passions he wouldn’t have discovered without being an active participant of 4-H and seeing the challenges farmers and rural communities face firsthand.
