Unfortunately our budget for Professional Development has been slashed again. I can pay for membership in NACUMS and CUMSA but cannot attend any of the conferences for 2019. I miss you all!
Had to pass this along We should be thankful parents are not mailing their children to school! For those who are not my Facebook friends and haven’t seen my post today… I sometimes post weird, humorous, and interesting true stories from history Here is one I came across today I could not resist In January 1913, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Beauge of Glen Este, Ohio, placed their young son in the care of the United States Postal Services for the low cost of 15¢. They mailed him to a relative, taking care to insure him for $50…you know…in case anything happened. Later that month, a family in Pine Hollow, Pennsylvania mailed their daughter to relatives in Clay Hollow for a cost of 45¢. On this date 105 years ago, February 19, 1914, the Pierstorff family from Grangeville, Idaho placed 53¢ worth of stamps on the on their five-year-old daughter’s coat and mailed her to her grandmother’s house. After Postmaster General Albert S. Burleson heard these stories, he officially prohibited sending humans through the mail. In spite of this, a woman mailed her six-year-old daughter 720 miles from Florida to Virginia the following year for 15¢. The last recorded instance of a child being mailed came in August 1915, when three-year-old Maud Smith was mailed from her grandparents to her sick mother in Kentucky. Even after this, some people attempted to mail children, but postmasters rejected their applications claiming they couldn’t be classified as “harmless live animals.” Dwayne A. Magee, CGCM Director College Press & Postal Services
Somehow NACUMS has to find a way to represent our frustrations to National Amazon logistics. Their flex driver/"same day" delivery promise DOES NOT WORK for us. It doesn't matter who we tell on the street, or behind the wheel. They get paid for the drop, and the "drop" they will make. Right now 2 separate drivers each of them dropping 20 packages- RIDICULOUS ( I can refuse them, but the driver suffers, not AMAZON!) I got this from our "regional" in an email: "...The only way to stop the FLEX deliveries is to turn off same day promise for the campus. This has been escalated on multiple campuses. If we turn off same day it leads to poor customer experience and leadership does not want to deprive students of a same day delivery option. I am currently traveling for work but will look into other options when I return on the 26th."
