The launch of the Future Teacher Academy brought together Wichita State College of Applied Studies, WSU Tech and Wichita Public Schools to celebrate a big step forward for future educators.

This 2+2 program supports students from hands-on classroom experience to full licensure—strengthening the local teacher pipeline along the way.

CAS Dean, Dr. Jennifer Friend highlighted how this effort will help keep skilled, passionate educators in the community.

🌟 CAS Student Spotlight: Wendy Hummell | Clinical Mental Health Counseling | Graduate Student 🌟

With nearly 30 years in law enforcement and a passion for first responder wellness, Wendy returned to school to make an even greater impact. Now a graduate student in WSU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, she’s combining her real-world experience with academic training to provide culturally competent care in the field of mental health.

From managing a 60-member peer support team to hosting the Guns and Yoga Podcast, Wendy is dedicated to supporting those who serve.

Learning doesn't always have to be in the classroom. Dr. Danny Bergman's Core 2 Science Education students put this theory to the test with a hands on learning lesson on predator/prey relationships and camouflage. Students counted, scattered and "hunted" M&Ms to represent the chance of survival in the wild.

Dr. Bergman even had the students throw candy at him for this perfect picture of his student's enjoyment. Now that's real commitment 😎
