GSEP Tokyo Tech Global Scientists and Engineers Program
(8)

GSEP is a program for international students striving to be scientists and engineers with a global perspective in transdisciplinary fields (engineering science). Proficiency in the Japanese language is not required for admission as courses will be taught in English. However, students will be required to study introductory Japanese as part of this program, and they will be encouraged to further familiarize themselves with the Japanese language as well as Japanese culture throughout the course of their studies. Students who successfully acquire advanced Japanese skills may take courses taught in Japanese as well.

Mission: The Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering in the School of Environment and Society offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs for scientists and engineers with a global perspective in a transdisciplinary field. Both science and engineering are transdisciplinary in nature. For example, the field of robotics requires knowledge of mechanics and electronics. Sometimes, even knowledge of biology is necessary. Nuclear technology utilizes knowledge from various fields, such as physics, chemistry, material science, mechanics, architecture, and infrastructure. Environmental engineering requires knowledge from various fields of science and engineering, as well as social science, such as economics, political science, and sociology. Furthermore, the impact of science and engineering are global.

Recently, the current 2nd year students of the Global Scientists and Engineers Program (GSEP) had the chance to go around the Kansai area (Kobe, Osaka, and Kyoto) for a study trip. Accompanied by the GSEP faculties, they went to different museums, a super computer facility, and in an actual Japanese manufacturing factory.

The GSEP study trip aims to enrich the learning experiences of our students by showing them different places and letting them meet new people, engineers, entrepreneurs from the present and even past era that can inspire them and help them see what roles they would take on in the society after they graduate.

From here on, we will feature articles written by our students as they tell us about the places that they have visited during their study trip together with some of their insights. Chatr Suttijaree from Thailand, will tell us about the first-stop of the GSEP study trip: the K-Supercomputer Facility.
