Dr. Jose Rizal's last words during his ex*****on by firing squad in Bagumbayan on December 30, 1896.

Rizal was born in 1861 in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines. He received his early education from Catholic missionaries and later studied in Ateneo Municipal de Manila and Universidad Central de Madrid.

Rizal's literary career began with the publication of his first novel, "Noli Me Tangere" (Touch Me Not) in 1887. The novel criticized the Spanish friars' corruption and oppression in the Philippines. His second novel, "El Filibusterismo" (The Reign of Greed) was published in 1891. Both novels became bestsellers and sparked a nationalist movement in the Philippines.

In 1892, Rizal was arrested by the Spanish authorities for his involvement in the La Liga Filipina (Philippine Association), a secret society advocating for Philippine independence. He was tried for rebellion and sentenced to death by firing squad in 1896.

Rizal's ex*****on sparked a revolution against Spanish rule, which led to the Philippine Declaration of Independence in 1898. Rizal is considered a national hero in the Philippines and is remembered for his contributions to Philippine literature, nationalism, and independence movement.

CAS Student Leaders Attend the 1st Blue Knight Leadership Conference

Backed by the unwavering encouragement and support of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dean - Dr. Annbeth B. Calla, and headed by Prof. Jasmin Mante and Prof. Ezri Coda Jr., the officers from the College of Arts Sciences Local Council, together with the RMC Junior Psychology Society, and the RMC Ipso-Pacto Political Science attended the 1st Blue Knight Leadership Conference held at the Ateneo de Davao University On November 11, 2023.

Student leaders from different schools in Davao City gathered together and participated in the conference which brought insightful, inspirational, and informative dialogues from the seven speakers and graduates of Ateneo de Davao University. Each speaker shared their expertise and experiences on their distinct topics.

The first speaker was Mr. Nic Gabunada, who tackled "Crisis Management" and is also a Public Relations expert. He identified his past and one of his most challenging affairs in managing crises and shared how an effective leader must act amidst the overwhelming pressure of his work.

The second speaker was Mr. Luisito Pineda, whose topic is central to today's fast leap in technology use as he enumerated facts about "Understanding Artificial Intelligence."
Mr. Pineda presented the usefulness of Artificial Intelligence in people's lives nowadays and encouraged everyone to utilize its convenience wisely.

The third speaker was Mr. Jun Ellorimo. Mr. Ellurimo is also an alumnus of Ateneo, whose passion and dedication to his job as a physical therapist enabled him and his wife to establish a business in the shoe-making industry. Their shoe designs made with a unique fit give their buyers and clients in physical therapy the comfort of improving their physical movement.

Mr. Ronald Magnaye, former Chief of Analytics and Operations at UNICEF Head Quarters in New York was the fourth speaker, and his subject, "Rise to the Top," included his professional journey in UNICEF. The participants at the conference were in awe when he gave an overview of his career, inspiring everyone to work at the United Nations.

The fifth subject was "Empowering Migrant Filipino Workers" by Mr. Medel Aviles. He dived into the challenges often faced by Filipino migrant workers and presented the current data involving the plight of professionals leaving the Philippines and its consequences.

"Global Leader in Open-source Intelligence" is delivered by Mrs. Everly De Vera Cirineo. She shared her insights about artificial intelligence and her work on Voxcroft.

The last speaker is the present Chairman of Cooperative Development Authority Usec. Joseph Encabo. His comical-styled delivery entertained and engaged the students in a dynamic forum after his speech. Usec Encabo exemplified well the government's response to the topics previously mentioned. He also accentuated the significance of being an effective leader driven by the genuine purpose of serving the community.

The College of Arts and Sciences student leaders from The Rizal Memorial Colleges Inc. are beyond grateful to attend the 1st Blue Knight Leadership Conference. Having had the chance to meet and engage with the different student leaders from other schools was a worthwhile beginning to equip themselves with the right attitude in facing future challenges.

Teachers in the academic field serve as mentors who direct students toward learning, wisdom, and personal development rather than just as instructors. We observe Teachers' Day every year to recognize and honor the commitment and toil of our teachers. This day is more than simply a custom in the College of Arts and Sciences; it is a sincere show of appreciation and respect for the outstanding professors who have impacted the lives of numerous students. We gladly celebrate "Gurong Rizalian" this year.

On this day, we honor the enormous contribution that educators have made to society. Teachers, the unsung intellectual architects, are crucial in determining the future's cognitive environment. They foster critical thinking, a sense of wonder, and a commitment to lifelong learning in addition to just disseminating information. Their intellectual prowess is demonstrated by their capacity to tap into the potential of young minds and inculcate in them not only knowledge but also moral principles. Teachers are the epitome of commitment, tenacity, and a never-ending desire to pass on information.

We would like to express our gratitude to these educational giants for continuing to advance human knowledge, one lesson at a time. These keepers of knowledge and inspiration wish you a Happy Teacher's Day
